Normal Fuel Press..??

I have two Holley Blues and when its warm my fuel pressure is generally around 24 psi idle and 19 WOT... But when its cold it starts at about 14 psi and slowly climbs to about 19 and stays there WOT or not... (and it did the same thing awhile back no matter what the outside temp was).. Whats goin on?

Seems a little high! I like to keep mine at about 15lbs. Also you may just be seeing the pumps building residual pressure! Check both pumps! make sure there both kicking at the same time! May be a wiring issue! Do you have a stong Relay and Wiring Harness? Also could be grid heaters drawing voltage! I noticed that was worse running ground through the factory plugs!

Me and one of my friends installed it (BCB on DTR) and the pumps kick on at the same time and the connection is solid... I figured the more psi the better right? It just seems weird for it to climb slowly like that... and when the grid heaters kick in then it climbs almost unnoticably and soon as they turn off it rises faster... Im just a bit puzzled

Awall:

I had a single Holley Red installed with the stock lift pump on my old 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve truck and had the same symptoms as you are seeing in real cold weather too. After the engine and fuel warmed up the pressure always came back up with no problems. I ran the Holley Red for over two years with no problems on my truck.

you just answered it yourself in the last sentence. the grid heater pull juice from the battery= less juice for the holleys. when the alternator charges the batteries back, the pressure comes back up.

yeah thats pretty normal when its cold, so long as you keep an eye on them to make sure the pumps arent at less pressure once its warmed up fully. i imagine it'd be like gettin thrown out of bed and being chased.... i wouldn't run at full speed yet either lol

the ecm cycles the grid heater even after the truck is started. on cold days here, it can cycle on and off for a few minutes while running.

John, I installed your setup over 2 years ago and have had
no issues and great pressure, but I get the lower fuel pressure reading in the cold as well till she warms up. Your setup was best mod I've done to her Thanks for the info.

Mike:

Thanks for your input on the Holley Pump. I really think for the money the Holleys are not a bad way to go, especially for someone that does not want to spend alot of money on an auxiliary/pusher fuel pump for our trucks. I know that some of the members have had problems with them and I respect that. But they don't cost much ($100-$115.00), they get a real good warranty from "Advance Auto Stores" (One (1) Year) and as we said are pretty darn reliable for no more than they cost.

FWIW,..... I have one of the real high dollar H.O. FASS Fuel Pumps on my "heavily built" 96' Dodge CTD and so far it has done alright. But DARN that thing is loud!! I could never even hear my old Holley Red running but you can definitely hear this FASS. Of course it is flowing 200 gallons per hour too!! FASS says they have a "modification" to greatly quiet them down and I need to send it off to see if that is the case.

Anyway,.....thanks again for your input!
