Nitrous, why are diesel nitrous kits so expensive?

Different kits cost different amount due to whats included..... A good diesel kit will iclude large parts to make it perform. A nitrous kit is only as good as its smallest piece. Some kits today are cheap by standards. The NX SX2d kit sells for about 1/2 of what you could put the kits together for with individual components. A progressive controller ads to the price of any kit. For the serious diesel guy wanting to run nitrous and get 200+ from it should look for a kit that has the following or larger"
-6 lines
15# bottle
.125 solenoids
big nozzels to flow the nitrous
bottle heater
The progressive controllers really do make a difference in when/how the nitrous is applied. We are now introducing nitrous at boost levels below 5# with positive effects. Power can be made with smaller kits than this but again gains are dependent upon fueling and air.......

I have to agree with you Doug, the guys that run the dual stage kits are making some big HP, no doubt.
The point I was making is that there is no need to spend $800-1400 depending on which diesel kit you look at, to run nitrous on your diesel truck. With the exception of the progressive controller from NX, I could build a similar kit with automatic bottle warmer, gauge, 2 big solenoids, -6 line for about $200 less than the list price on NXd kit, using hobbs switches for control.

I just thought I would update this post with some dyno numbers from today.
Just to give some background on the weather conditions, it was 94.16F and humidity was ranging from 30-36%
My runs in order.
567.25/1060.10 (NO2)
475.08/950.06 (Fuel only)
559.90/111.75 (NO2)
558.30/1101.44 (NO2)
All nitrous runs using a .68 pill, single shot in the airhorn. Highest gain was 92hp, other two runs average around 85hp.

You need a bigger shot Mike- you were smoking till the end on with all the pulls but the last.

That's what I was telling him but still pretty darn impressive from a moderately small shot.

dieselfan, I was down on my fuel run for two reasons. The weather was one, but the other reason was I had the wastegate set to run nitrous. I was worried of blowing past the wastegates and over spinning the charger with nitrous. I can run 45-48 psi of boost and still make power on fuel. The main reason for the fuel run was to get an est. of what the nitrous was giving me over fuel.
Ph4tty, Believe me if I had a bigger pill I would of used it. I have some more work to do on this nitrous kit, so I'll have more to post on the subject as I go.

I have no idea how much boost it would take to over-spool my turbo, for the money I paid for it I would like to stay on the safe side. I've heard 50 psi is max safe limit on my particular charger.

Mike, it would be fairly simple to inject the NO2 into the pre-CAC pipe... I bet the same shot you used on the dyno would get you over a 100HP increase from nitrous.
