Question Newer Truck... more power!!

Hi, Im new here and I just sold my 1994 12v cummins with 297,000 miles on it. Im looking to get into a 2001 or 2002 24v with a 5 speed manual. I had a few questions about these. Do i need to worry about the 53 block in a 2001-2002? If so where on the motor can i find out??

the truck will be a dually 4x4, and i do 50% of my driving on city and gravel roads.. Should I got a 3.55 or a 4.10 ratio axle?

This will be a daily driver but im looking to get some good safe power out of it... Im looking for some reccomendations on air intakes, power moduals, upgraded turbos, and injectors.. What do you guys reccomend these days??

I already know I will be putting a SB clutch and dual 5in stacks on it.... So I guess I know kinda where i want to go iwth this truck..... Thanks for the help!!

more power

on the 2001 and 02 you dont need to worry bout the 53 block and as far as gear i have an 01 auto with 4 10 gears and its good for all around driveing but going down interstate really sucks 75 or 80 shes teching pretty high and as far as chips i like the new edge juice for our trucks aint got one yet but iam saveing for the juice ,mach 4 injectors and a new turbo and afe makes a good intake but its all up to you good luck.

You will get better mileage with 3.55s. 53 blocks are in 1999s.

53 blocks can be from 98 to 01 as I understand it. They are more concentrated in 99 though. There are some 12 valves with the 53 and a few 01's though most 01's are Mexican blocks. I don't think I've ever heard of an 02 with a 53. Look on the drivers side of the block close to the front. The 53 will be in the casting of the block. There is a another location on the passenger side, not sure but I believe below the alternator....it is harder to find though. Do a search for DTR member "Stamey". Pull up any of his posts and he has a link to his own website in his signature. It has lots of good 53 block info.

BTW, if you aren't pulling heavy, opt for the 355 gears.

I had a 2001 3500 4X4 with 3.54s in it. If you were leaving the truck stock I would suggest 4.10s but if you going to do a little work on it then 3.54s do just fine.
