Newbie 2000 build up^
Hey guys I have recently purchased a 2000 CTD, 2500, 4x4 with an auto and 37,000 miles. What I am looking to do is get a little more gas milage and a little more horse power without greatly increasing the chances of trashing my tranny. I have already ordered the Scotty 2 intake and have plans to do a 4" exhuast. I also plan to do a Mag-Hy-Tech tranny pan. So what route would you guys recomend from hear ? Are there any small tricks that should be done to gain performance or help protect my drive train ? I have been doing lots of searches, but all this info gets to be a little overwelming. I am very macanical and have tools for just about any job. Any help would be great.
Thanx,

that or a comp and just be easy on the skinny pedal. Accually you should just shell the stock tranny and get an ats trans. Confront the inevitable and start bombing it correctly. . Just kidding, I couldnt afford to do that , let alone fill the tank to full. Good luck.

Welcome Mike
I would recommend the MAD ECM over the EZ. Having used both...the ECM WITH the timing is better performance and seems to be producing an honest mileage increase.
I would also recommend synthetic ATF for better high temp protection. It will help your stock tranny last longer. And you can start saving for the tranny upgrade...assuming you will get bit by the bombing bug!

i hear the mad ecm is to much for a stock tranny . that is why i ended up getting my van aakens box i really like it and havent had any issues with the tranny yet . but the biggest thing is get a fuel pressure gauge and upgrade the fuel system .atleast get you some high flow lines if not a fass or something close cause these vp44s need there fuel pressure to stay alive. for that tranny i would call dave goerand he builds some really nice stuff and awsome custemer service. this is who i am getting my stuff from

Should I run a trans temp gauge as well Pyro, boost, and fule pressure ?
How high should the pyro, boost, and fule pressure gauges read ?
I am looking at both the Edge EZ, and the Van Aaken. What are the pros and cons ?
Also thinking of doing the Scotty smart fule system. What do you think of this system ?
I should also add that this truck will be towing Jeep on a flat bed with a pop up camper in the bed.
Thanks for all of the replies.

If your not getting a better converter/ built valve body; then get on ebay, and buy a $50-60 Transgo shift kit. I gave $50 for mine buy it now, and it helped my transmission a lot. Im really glad i bought it. Just something to think about for cheap. Put mine in myself.

-I would recommend the VanAaken. fewer returns...more low end power.
-Pyro needs to go to 1500*...I like the multicolored w/ yellow & red arcs...eliminates need to read actual temp while driving. Picture in my Gallery (on pg 2), if interested.
-Boost - 0-60 psi
-Fuel Pressure - 0-30 psi
Scotty FuelFlow System is excellent...will take you up to 450 hp at least, before you will need more flow.

i really like my VA and my scotty lines . and you will deff want a trany temp. im running all isspro gauges and really like how easy they are to read . get your self a 0 to 60 boost gauge that way you dont have to replace it later when you go bigger. since this truck has a hy9 on it get your self a j hook to tie the wastgate shut .
