Well being a 24 valve you have the VP44 injection pump that you need to keep an eye on. So a fuel pressure gauge, boost gauge and pyro/egt gauge would be a good start. This will help you monitor your engine and its performance, plus you will be able to keep it in a safe zone too.
Now, upgrades are just about all over the place, so its all up to you and how far you need to go.
You could add a power module, injectors, air intake system, 4" exhaust to help with the egt's, larger turbo, and of course with the auto you will need some help there if you continue to add more power. So its a list that can go on and on, but this should get you started.....

Don't go with cheap upgrades because once you have the bombing bug you'll have wish ya'd gone bigger.
1. guages, at least pyro and fuel pressure ($250)
2. fass fuel pump for no worries of lift pump failures ($369)
3.Get the "smarty programmer", do a search and read up.($649?)
4. Get Jammer III nozzles (ebay) for your injectors ($250)
5. save for a 60mm+ turbo w/12cm exhaust ($700)
6. now you need a 4" exhaust "warpspeed" on ebay ($259)
7. and a bhaf intake ($40-$75)
all for about $2500 and everything can be installed yourself. Sounds like fun to me
P.S. This is just a responsible start, or go way bigger, stack an edge comp and maybe even dye your hair bright red, sky's the limit

Welcome to the site.
Lots of good info in the forums and the Tech Facts section at the top of the page.
BTW the 99' didn't have Cat Converters, but did have a Muffler and a Resonator.

Forget the 4", you don't need it. Bypass the stock lift pump with a fass pump after you get the guages. That way your injection pump is happier and your chances of an expensive repair is less.

Kinser5mfan, There are very few bombs in IMO that are cheap, part of the art of bombing is spending more money that you can afford on things for your truck and having everyone who knows yo shake their heads at how silly you are being, at least that is what wifey tells me....

i really appreciate all the info from everyone!!!
i think untill i get some more money saved i will just have the old muffler taken off and a straight piece of pipe put there. i have been looking at gauge options but am very unsure of what to get as far as mounting them goes

I got my isspro gauges from Piers here in Canada, if I were in the states I would get a two or a three guage kit and a A-pillar pod from Diesel Manor.
http://www.dieselmanor.com/ Fuel pressure at least. The A-pillar pod doesn't really affect vision much. Pyro is not that critical if you aren't going to increase your HP above stock. If your going to leave it stock, reading the performance threads will have your credit card out in no time.
