Ok I got a screaming deal on a brand new turbo the other day. It's a edge bb turbo. I know they have a bad rap but I got it for $400 with a downpipe so I figured what the hell i will do it. What is the difference between this turbo and a turbonetics stage 1? The specs are the same so I am assuming they are the same turbo, but one has edge engraved on the compressor housing. I've had it on for a couple of days and I actually like it. It spools good and it pulls hard. What makes these turbos so bad? (so everybody says)

 

The early ones had a lot of problems. That probably didn't help. Beyond that the 58mm is generally smaller than most want for a performance turbo. This coupled with the fact that it is non wastegated makes for problems when they get pushed. My assumptions anyway.

 

Yeah the 58mm is kinda small but, it has a pretty big exhaust wheel. I know it is around 70mm. I don't know if that matters. The price was right and it flows better than stock and I don't plan on doing anymore fueling mods. Maybe even putting smaller injectors in. We will see how it turns out. Hopefully it lasts.
