New Turbo

Hey Guys,
Well I was thinking about my next mod. I may go with a Snows water / Meth to cool the mix, but was thinking about a new turbo also. I'm sure both will be in the truck by the end of the summer.
Here's my question. If I go with a sledpuller 66 how much more power will that give me with my current mods. A good friend has one on his truck and he says it spools about the same as his stocker did. Can that be true? His truck is modded alot more than mine. If not the sp66, what would be a good turbo? I want to end up with a good usable 450 or so hp. I figure I'm around 300 - 350 hp now. Do you guys think I'm in the ball park? Where will I be with the new turbo and water/meth setup?
As always THANKS a bunch guys,
Topper

The SP66 does NOT spool anything like a stock charger! The 66 size chargers are for guys with lots of fuel and HP is the main objective. Based on your sig you would be much better off with something in the 62mm size. The 62 will support over 500 HP without a problem plus it spools well and exhibits none of the bad habits the 66 size turbos do.

Doug,

Where do you think I'm at hp wise now and were will I be with the 62mm unit that you suggest?
Thanks,
Randy

You're probably around 325hp.

I'd go for a htb2 or phatshaft 62.

I would expect you to be in the 325HP range running a Smarty and Jammer 3's.

How smoky are you now? I don't think you have enough fuel yet to get a big bump in hp by the turbo. Add a TSTpm3 and a 62-12 then you'll add 100+ hp. Or you could add larger injectors and the turbo and see some good hp gains. Think of it this way: If you have smoke, you can add air with the turbo and be able to burn it. Otherwise you are only going to slow your spool up and responsiveness.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the input. As far as how smokey I am, if I jump on the go pedal from a stand still or let the rpms drop I can black out the road behind me especially if I have the Smarty turned up. In fact I run it down on 5 because it will smoke so much. I was thinking about the water / meth and or a bigger turbo because the egts climb pretty fast. I have pegged the 1500 deg meter a time or two...
Also how much difference is there between the Phat shaft 62 and the htb2 ?
Thanks again,
Topper

Topper,

If you want give me a call tomorrow and I can go over the differences of each turbo..... Both are great turbos and you won't go wrong with either. The main benefit you are going to see from a larger turbo is lower egt's.
