Re:New Torque Converter Design

Im kinda weak tonight. No energy to argue or even think real straight. Of course a father would pick sides though

Oh I got him on the twin turbo thread. He called the small turbo the primary ;D

All in fun Man

Man some good stuff there for all of us to absorb! Thanks to everyone that contributed I learned alot and also learned I didn't know squat ;D
I am sure there will be more like this and as long as everybody stays cool & collected, when that happens it just doesn't get any better than this!

I didn't keep score, but I think it was prety close toward the end!. Anyone that wishes to add to this discussion is welcome, I just removed one because he felt the need to get personal and not stick to the thread issue. This will not be tolerated.

Re:New Torque Converter Design

One problem I have and would like to throw in. I have a dozen 1'X1'X2"concrete bricks that I landscaped my backyard with and tried the experiment that proved or dis-proved the multi brick analogy that was posted earlier here. When stacked 3 high and a 1/2" rope tied to the middle brick and my 240 blubbery pounds on it, my neighbor tried to pull out the middle brick and couldn't. When I stacked it 5 bricks high, he could pull out the middle brick no matter how they were rotated to allow for differences of friction between any two bricks. It makes sense if you think about it. Now if three ropes were tied to each of the middle three bricks I could see the possibility of increased friction. Isn't the triple disked converter only slamming against one plate? Think about for a moment. Now my brain is hurting [undecided]

Re:New Torque Converter Design

Thanks! you got mine hurting too! [undecided]
I answered this 5 times and still could not say it right!.
Basically I think leverage or the amount of force required to move that center brick changes because of the overall height. The traction area while disbursed is a greater distance apart. Perhaps if you had really thin bricks it would not be the same.
I don't know if you follow what I am saying I barely can myself. I am no engineer or student of physics, but in my mind you would have to increase the number of ropes while keeping the amount of pull the same to see true results.
Ok so I am an idiot! ;D
Re:New Torque Converter Design

If 12,000 pounds of pressure are applied to 1 sq.ft. isn't that 1000 psi? If the same 12,000 pounds is applied to 2 sq.ft. isn't the 500psi? 12,000/24"? I don't think you can get 12,000 pounds of applied pressure with 3 disks to equal 36,000 pounds of holding power. I'm reading a physics book as we speak (remember I'm a teacher). I'm reading a coefficient formula and surface area is not part of the equation. Surface area is only applied to dilute psi, and has no bearing on Coefficient of friction between two surfaces.
