New Topic, no more rear end adjustment
Okay, so after doing research and talking to others, doing the rear end swap is pointless. I would only be decreasing gas milage and not helping myself. Now on to another topic, has anyone used the banks systems?? If i am to achieve what i am looking for, which is gaining a few extra towing pounds, then what do I need to do, thinking conservatively and not spending more than a $1000. I have read several differnt things but none have helped much. I want to save the transmission as much as possible, maybe keep it cooler, and try not to void the warranties by too much.
Thanks in advance. If you have any questions feel free to email me or private message me.

One of the easiest things to do would be to add an Edge EZ module to your truck. I have used banks products on my own truck, and on customers trucks with only positive experiences--but the cost is high. The Edge EZ module is fairly inexpensive and will add 70-80hp and 185tq and is a pc of cake to install.

I installed the Banks Stinger system (includes 4" exhaust) and Banks brake in July just prior to heading up into the Colorado mountains. I was looking for a little more "go power" and a whole lot of "stop power". Call Tom @ Banks to discuss your specific setup and needs.
The Stinger gave me enough power to keep up with and/or pass all traffic while going uphill, and the Brake gave me the ability to control my downhill speed without touching my brakes -- while pulling a 9k lb TT. It automatically adjusts the fuel to keep the EGTs under 1350, and the boost stays below 28 lbs. For me, the two systems were well worth the $2700, and easy to install.
The EGT and boost gauges are included in the Stinger system, and connect into the control module. I bought the 3-gauge A-pillar mount from Banks and added a FP guage (from Geno's). If you are thinking of adding ANY BOMBS, start with guages!
If you are looking for any more detail, PM me.

IMHO, the single best way to go under $1K is to get some Mach 1.5 injectors and a simple ($100) boost fooler.
The injectors will net you mileage, low smoke, and maximum control. They won't strain the injection pump, and they are MUCH easier on the transmission that any kind of "box" would be.
I've become such a believer in JUST the mach 1.5 injectors that I wish everyone could tow with the combo. No risky EGT, no need for turbo upgrades, or intake upgrades or exhaust upgrades. I'd still recommend gauges (as I would on a bone stock truck). You can drop in the 1.5s with a basic boost fooler and have a great package with minimum hassle and no other headaches.
As for Banks, they make some decent products, some are good, some are not as good. Most consider them to be less than a good value, as you can get excellent results for MUCH less money.
I'd put the 1.5/boost fooler combo against ANYTHING from anyone in the $1000 price range. If you tow or just want mild upgrades without breaking the bank(s), you can't do better.

Okay, update, i went home and tried to explain it all to the wife, but I think we have decided to get the exact same truck in an '04/'05 model with the new 600 cummins, which means, gettin a new truck, gettin a new truck, gettin a new truck, yeeeee haaaaawwwww.
Now, just need to find one, 3500 crew cab auto laramie 4x2, if ya'll know of any close to VA, let me know. One of the stealers had 4 on his lot like 6 months ago and they were exactly what we wanted, but we weren't lookin at that time, ugh.
