new tires: 285's or 265's
well i have ran some 35x12.50's and 33x12.50's on my truck and and i am not wanting to have a larger tire anymore. i am starting to use my truck alot more to tow and haul stuff around. my biggest problem with the 315's and 305's is they are d rated. they may have the same weight rating as an e tire but they are not constructed the same. the 50 psi on the fronts it still looks low. anyway i am stuck between 285 and 265's. there are more 265 in e ratings than the 285. i use my truck around the hunting lease alot and run through a good bit of mud so i am going to get a mud tire. super swamper has a e rated 285, the trxus mt that is supposed good wearing. but other than that i am looking at the 265 e's. i would like a smaller tire to regain gear and to help with braking. i am going to leave the 2" spacer up front and 2" aal in the rear. if aynone has pics with 285 or 265 on a stock or lightly lifted truck i would love to see them and anyone opions, ideas, or experiences would be great. thanks to all.

and how about 245's. would they be ok on a 16x8. most weight i would be pulling is around 8K but that isn't often. but 2K to 5K often. and like i said i want to regain gear.

2.5 inch lift and 285s on 16x8 rims... comments are always welcomed and appreciated... your truck bein lifted, id avoid the 245s' get a 255 BGF mud terrain.. they are about 33 inches tall and not too wide.. and come in an E rating i think...

Toyo M-55 285 are E rated, we just put a set on the my wife truck, as she really like them, She said they were quiet and smooth. But she was taking off the winter studed snow tires at the same time.

Personally I like skinnier, but 265/75/16 comes in a Load range E with a 3415# tire capacity and they are cheap.
I'd prefer a 235/85/16 ... but they're only good for 3000 or so per tire.

Besides, I think the 265's will give you a lot of gearing...coming from your present tires!
I love my Michelin LTX's...M&S, with excellent traction off road. Very quiet on road. Not cheap but an honest 60,000+ mile tire.

PS: as requested...285's in my gallery...just 4x4...no lift.

I'd say that it's generally better to add power than to put on smaller tires in hopes of regaining some oomph.
I see no reason to go smaller than 265s. Possible exception is a 255/85

285's or 315's. i used to tow alot more than you and alot heavier than you are talking about and those tires fit the ticket even at a D rating especially for offroad and on road use. Though i had to be careful since i was still a SRW, FYI toyo had an E rated tire that worked well, otherwise i was a strict BFG AT fan and the 3 ply sidewall handled just as well as a 235/85 16 would. like you said the weight rating was just as high and for highway towing the larger diameter changed my gearing the taller tires worked well for pulling it down into direct and pulling a hill with rpms to spare, as to attempting to gear down by going smaller it works a little but you have low range and a manual tranny 1st gear lowrange provides pretty deep reduction, 315's with tire chains on in the snow on my old ford cummins conversion with 3.54 gears you can see how well that worked in my gallery, i have a hard time thinking you would need much more lower gearing or be attempting anything much harder than that, BTW i had 4.10s before the 3.54's and 265's the difference offroad after the progressive change to 3.54's and then adding 285's and then 315's was hardly an inconvenience nor really that power robbing, i kinda liked the higher mileage gains that i got by being able to raise my highway cruising speed without raising the rpms.

well i've read a post where someone thought that premature tranny wear is due to running 315's. i liked their look. but i bought the truck with 35's and have no idea what the stock or smaller size tires are like. some people say there is a big difference and some say there isn't. i have the ez and my truck has WAY more power than i will probably ever use. but would the larger siae tire be bad on my truck towing the loads i mentioned? would a 315 to a 285 make that much difference?
