New HTB2 turbo installed, break-in?
I installed my new HTT HTB2 turbo and downpipe on friday. The install went fairly well, the hardest part was getting the exhaust modified to fit the downpipe. Spool up seems better than the HX35/14. I haven't been hot rodding it yet because I'm not sure of the breakin procedure for a new turbo. How long of a break-in does a new turbo need? I also noticed some play in the compressor wheel, side to side. I am calling Paul on Monday to ask him about this. I wouldn't think there should be much at all right? I'm anxious to get on it hard but I will wait until I know everything is ok.

Usually 500 miles, but I only lasted about 50 when I installed my B1...I'm at 4K now and no problems, so I don't think it hurts too much.
Then again, I can only turn this lag pig to 40psi!

I installed my new htb2 on a thursday and dynoed saturday(had 20 miles on it).
I spoke with Paul about break in he said to make sure its up to operating temps and let her go just try not to bark it. A few hundred miles later and no problems.
Mine also had a little play from side to side but it didnt hit the houseing so no worries.

When I bgt my B-1...the MFG suggested to keep it under 20 psi for 500 miles.
Other members since than have said "no breakin required". Many brag about flooring it the first day...but none I know of have 200,000 miles of good tight performance on their turbo upgrades to prove their point.
Seems to me...anything that spins at 100,000+ rpm deserves SOME "wearing in" time...but that's just my cautious nature.

Thanks, I have been trying to take it easy, but I had to try it out and I took it to 35 psi, unfortunantly when I let off and shifted it barked. This thing barks way too easy What kind of life expectancy can be had from a turbo that barks this easy? Do I need a BOV?

I talked to Paul at HTT, he said that the breakin really wasn't an issue and to just get it up to operating temp before I lean into it. He said that barking it won't hurt. Now to install my Drag Comp and see what it'll do then

pre oil it and drive it---hope your boots stay on, as blowing boots off is possibly the hardest thing on turbos unless you start injectin' stuff where it shouldn't be and/or overboost it---have fun----chris
