New Hood (thanks to Mother Nature)?
Got a call while on vacation at South Padre Island this weekend from my neighbor. "Hey man, it hailed pretty good up here in McKinney, and your truck has a bunch of dings on it".
So, I filed a claim from the airport (had time to kill) and am waiting on the adjustor to come look at it. Have already decided, what the heck, might as well get a new hood with the ram air look. Where do I start looking and what can I expect to pay?
Thanks,
Rob

That is the truth my truck was at the body shop for ten day before the ins guy showed up to look at it. I get $20 a day in rental coverage but the say I must us it on a rental and the cheapest rental is $24 a day

Looks like just the hood and roof, don't think the front fenders got anything and nothing on the sides. Little dimples (not huge dents and no broken glass) all over the hood mostly, was about 1-2" hail from what I heard. Can't see it being over $2000, but then again I have no idea what paintless dent repair costs (I am guessing they estimate the fix assuming paintless dent repair).

Although, I would also assume there would be a quantity discount

My hood is in the same shape, along with the cab roof and some real small dings on the left front fender...also cracked the windshield! Now with my $1k deductable I never claimed it thinking that I'd come out on the losing end. I've always wanted a cowl hood on the truck though....I wonder if there's a time limit on making claims.......? I go through USAA....guess it couldn't hurt to ask.

i found if you tell the insurance company you are doing some of the repairs your self they are more willing to cough up money. i wacked 3 deer one night and i replace all the panels and light myself and they cover the paint work and what i paid for the panels. save them money because i dont charge the insurance company any labor, and they didnt raise my rate because i did do the work myself.... but like 2 month later i wacked 2 more, i cant ever hit just one

Thanks wurkenman,
Found them last night. They appear to be the best price for a ram air type (~$500 for a steel, unpainted, +$125 shipping). I thought about fiberglass, but they are about 2x that price. I found some OEM (unpainted) for about $280. All going to depend on what the adjustor says.

I had a hail claim last summer here in MN. We had some pretty good size chunks come down - some 2.5"! My truck was in the driveway and obviously took some hits so I brought it to a few body shops and PDR guys for estimates. There are only a few hits you can see clearly since the truck is white - but if you look hard there are dings on virtually every single panel of the truck. Including a $700 Pace Edwards roll up cover that was also damaged - the total was just about $3800. $3100 of that was PDR. Since I own the truck outright I was issued a check for the full amount (My house also had damage and they are coveraged by the same company AAA so they took the deductable out of that) and I have yet to fix anything. I do plan to get the hood fixed - but I can't see the roof anyway and the rest is very minor and not really noticable. Just to fix the hood was around $400 - less than buying a new one and having it painted.

Adjustor said $2150, less a $100 deductible, I should pocket $2050 because I have the title with no liens against it. Few dings on the fenders that I won't worry about, the roof can wait 'til summer to see if the heat pops some back out. Adjustor wrote the claim assuming hood replacement. I could go the PDR route, but there are a bunch of big rock chips that have been bothering me, so I am going to replace it. Just trying to figure out which hood to get.
Don't know if I want to cheap out and get an OEM one for $280 and have it painted or one from LMC for $500 and have it painted.

Found a bunch of sites for OEM hoods. All these sites have the same look to them and the same prices. Here is one:
http://www.innerauto.com/store/?N=16...294967265+9220
My concern with these sites is that they list 4 hoods for the 2002 2500 Ram
They show 2 2nd gen. hoods and 2 3rd gen hoods
They list one of the hoods as fitting 2002-2004 2500's, we know that is BS.
So, for the 2 they list for 2nd gens, one is $280 and the other is "CAPA Certified" and is $266.
What does CAPA certified mean?
Here is another website, exact same prices and "look" to the website:
http://www2.partstrain.com/store/?N=...294967265+9220
EDIT: Answered my own question: CAPA Certified
Thanks,

I thought most people went hunting with rifles?????? Have you heard of those deer whistle things you put on the front of your truck that make noise only animals can here? I wonder if those work. Sounds like you have bad luck lol.
