new guy with some questions

new guy here and I would like your input on the vp44 and TST power max3. Here is some history on my truck my first vp44 lasted 170,000kms (lucky I know) the last 2000kms of its life i installed the power max3 fueling box then it died. Now I know it was probably its time and my lift pump was not so good. So i went and found a used injector pump that was known to be good and now this pump is throwing a p0253 code. So that may mean this pump is on its way out to. i use this truck as a daily driver and i tow a heavy load with it in the summers. So hear is my questions. first from the guys that run one Is the power max 3 a pump killer. (May just be my bad luck but before I buy a new pump I would like to know what you think.)#2 If you were going to buy a pump for towing and fun as a daily driver what one would it be.

P.S. thanks for your help here's what i tow

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? Your pump is cooled and lubed by fuel.

With the TST you will also need a pyro.

Lots of guys run that box on their 24v, it may be harder on the pump, but not necessarially a "pump killer"

Wire tap boxes a bit of a wild card on older VP's. Mine ended up FUBARed on the first 5x5 run on the Drag Comp I had. Don't know how many miles were on the pump. There was about 330k km on the truck though. Doubtful it was the stock pump.

For a new pump, just get a regular SO pump. I had a HRVP from II, I didn't like it. Drove poorly, idled poorly, and was a good amount more than your standard pump.

lemon-aid jay I dont know any thing about the power max 3. I run an Edge comp.,I started having the po253 code on my truck in the higher settings so I did some checking and found my problem was my wire tap on my pump.So I soldered the connection and have not had the code sense .

I like the power of the SHO pump but it idles too fast, idles rough and sounds like the truck is missing under no load conditions. You would probably like a well built SO pump. Bluechips really explains these pumps well.

My pump thru that same code and everyone including TST said it was shot, truck still ran great but would shut off without warning once a month, well I bit the bullet and installed a new VP, after 1 week it shutoff and thru the p0253 code again, I then disconnected the box, the code never came back, truck ran fine for the 2 weeks it was disconnected, 1 day after re-hooking it up BAM same code, box went to TST and they stated it had a loose connection internally, if you read the code it says open ground circuit or something of that nature, so just disconnect it, clear the code and see if it comes back with the pump untaped, then re-install to see what happens, if the box is bad TST will take care of it for a small fee, good luck.
