New exhaust howls....NOT HAPPY
Just in stalled new Expandit 4in exhaust system Turbo back with muffler. It fit great and was easy to install EXCEPT for the hangers, had to weld several and fab up one for tail pipe. Guy at expandit said 97s were the exception. Kinda PO'd that I had an extra 3 hrs of welding and fabing. Guys at accessory store said "No problem installing them, just bolts right up"... ITS NEVER THAT EASY.
WELL, now Its on the road and I have a bad howl, not so much under heavy accel, but when I ease off the pedal or completely let off, it goes HOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWW Its really annoying. as if my truck wasn't loud enough in the cab. You can kinda hear it in the tail pipe just at idle, and if you open the hood, you can hear it behind the turbo. Is this just the way it is, or is there some thing i can try. Almost sounds like when a person blows over the opening of a glass bottle. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Maybe it has a hole threaded in the downpipe for a pyro.If it does ,just plug it.Also open the hood and while its parked give it a little fuel, enough to smoke a bit and see if some comes out of the exhaust housing clamp.Could just need tightening or reseating

It could be the downpipe rubbing the firewall. I made my downpipe myself, and it rubs the firewall just a little, and sometimes it makes a little noise. Sounds just like the ford does.

It kinda sounds like the truck, but not exactly. THere is no plug for a pyro. I will look for leaks. Should I loosen and retighten the flange on the back of turbo? It is not rubbing on the firewall or any where else. Could the turbo be going out?

I wouldn't loosen the flange but I'd definitly get back in there and retorque it, you're supposed to do that after a week or so anyway with most exhaust work especially something that sees the heat of a downpipe.
