new to diesels, bombing 01?
i'm new to diesels and learnin the lingo of the trade, i'm in the process of looking at, possibly buyin a 2001 SB QC, 4x4, wondering what to do to it first, i'm wanting to increase both power and mileage, i'm wantin to go with probably 305's and a levelin kit for the front, i've been looking at some chips and boxes, but i've been lookin on here, can they be stacked?
? i've been lookin at a few different companys as well, whats the best to go with, and i am a college student as well so i want the best bang for my buck. also want to take care of the ricers around town that think their fast ( my lil bro is one of them
), might as well show em what real power is
thanks

ok if you buy a 01 and are wanting more power and are looking for a fueling box just do your self a favor and buy a drag comp that way you dont have to go bigger on that later . you will need gauges pyro ,boost and most of all the fuel pressure gauge . you might what to think about going with a manual trans cause they are cheaper to put a clutch in than a rebuild on a auto when you go big with the power.

hope you have a few grand saved up LOL
obviously gauges first...Fuel pressure is most important to save you from replacing a VP-44 injection pump which is big $$$$
you need a pyrometer, the turbo on that truck will be an hy35, very small and gets hot easily and quickly with a chip or injectors.
boost, will show any leaks and gives a good judge if something is wrong with the engine.
open filter and 4" exhaust will help alot with the EGT problem
the smarty tuner is a great first choice...about 60hp, but the gains are all down low where you need it, and removes top end de-fuel. throw in a set of 80-100hp injectors and you will have a very good running, quick spooling combo that EGT's wont be too dangerous if you can control your right foot.
there are other fueling boxes, but they will be a lil too much for you until you upgrade the turbo. and really none of these upgrades should be done on a stock tranny. at least go with a decent convertor and a valve body...that will get you to about 400hp if you dont abuse it. anything over 400, and you will wanna start looking at a whole tranny...which is most likely $3-6k

There is a guy that comes into the shop, knows one of the techs. His is a 97-98 I believe, has a lift on it, huge tires..auto and god only knows what he has done to the engine. I think he is on his 3rd or 4th tranny now. The dodge trans was done years ago and he is on his second performance built trans, I think it was atd or something like that, not even to sure....it was an auto so I lost interest quickly, I think this one was around $5000..not including the techs install fee. I know the trans was painted purple of all things......

I paid right at $20,000 for mine with 69000 miles, never pulled anything. So 14k is a great deal, hail damage might be able to be fixed by those paintless dent removal guys.

cowboy you can still run the drag comp just dont tap the wire till after you build a trans . but first thing is get those gauges in . before you buy the truck run it over to your local trans shop and most trans shops will check the trans for you for free to make sure its in good shape. and if its a good trans you can get away with a vb and tc to make it hold good power.
