new to diesel..considering performance chip
had my truck for 4 wks now.. after talking to some people, considering a Performance chip. Is the Edge EZ a good choice to start with.. ? Or would the Comp module be a better route.. Your opinions and or suggestions greatly appreciated...

Gotta tell us what youve got and what you're looking to get out of it. Fill in your signature with rear end gear ratio, tire size, transmission type, auto or stick, 5 or 6 spd, clutch if you know its been modified, the year of the truck.......... all these little details help and what you are interested in for mods, just a box or do you want to look at air improvements too?

Be advised that any fueling enhancement that taps into the injection pump will void any and all engine warrantee-- probably the whole drivetrain warrantee as well.
Does it matter? Not often.
I'd recommend an adjustable fueling box that taps the wire and voids the warrantee. The Blue Chip box, the Edge Comp, and the TST Powermax are boxes like this.
If you have an auto trans, you can't add more than 60hp or so before it gets really pricey in the form of a super-nice aftermarket tranny. After that, sky's the limit for the most part.
Stick shift can handle more power, and upgrade are cheaper by a lot (clutch vs rebuilt auto tranny). The guts of both the 5 and 6 speeds are plenty tough, though the 5 speeds tend to lose 5th gear after a 100K miles or so.
The point of best bang-for-the-buck for a 24V truck is about 350hp. Past this point, things get expensive as you need a larger turbo, exhaust, intake, etc etc..
I'm at 350hp+ and have stock turbo and exhaust and a modest BHAF.
I modest chip like the EZ and some 80-90hp injectors makes a very good streetable combo.
After that, things can be a little less friendly.

Also what no one mentioned is, what do you want out of your truck? Towing power, just some street/fun power, or crazy fast 12 second drag racer? Keep in mind that one way doesnt usually make better for the other.

Hohn had some good advise but 02 diesel only gives us a tid bit on the truck, 5spd's and autos are different from 6spds. And as i said before what you plan to do with it makes all the difference in the world.
Also by not tapping the wire you can avoid voiding the engine warranty, just be sure you take the computer and wiring off before taking it in for service. But rule of thumb is you pay when you play

I would like some performance for street fun/ power, not towing anything at this time ( maybe in the future). Do the gauges that TXRAM2 suggested come as a package or do you get them individually?
No warranty to be voided.

First get guages EGT, Boost, trany, and the biggest fuel pressure. As for a box I have a tst and like it, but you have to tap the pump wire. Well worth it IMO.
