my 02 has leaked ever since i bought it. i changed the front seal once and still leaked so i went to a cummins seal with a speedy sleeve. when i had the head off i i siliconed the timing case seal and the timing cover seal. replaced the side cover gasket, and siliconed the cover where the mechanical lift pump would go. its still drippin somewhere though. i wonder if its from higher boost pressures (45 psi) causing more blowby and presssuring that crank case. what can i do for extra crank venting on a 24v?

 

Is it leaking from breather tube?

 

Mine leaks but it don't make a mess on the ground. Must just be enought to oil everything up. Would be a great truck for up north living. No way the under carriage would rust on this thing. I've done front seal, timing cover and all manner of things, just gave up and check the oil. It seems about every 3000-4000 miles I have to add a half a quart or so.

I've decided to pretend my Cummins is an old Harley. To talk to the guys with the old bikes they leaked like mad cause they vibrated so much, hmmm, sounds familiar.

 

Get rid of the blow by bottle and run heater hose to the rear of the motor and get it about 2" below oil pan. That bottle will fill up every 5k or so and then start over flowing and the fan blows it all over the front of the motor.

 

its not out the breather. it already has the hose run down and out behind theengine. it almost looks like the side cover leaking. any ideas on extra crank venting?

 

heater hose is not a good choice, the oil will rot it out ......oil resistant hose cost a little more but will last forever

 

I'm thinking you might want to have a good look at the vacuum pump area for the leak. The gasket can leak where it bolts to the gear housing, the seal can leak where the power steering pump attaches, and there is an o-ring between the case halves of the vacuum pump that can leak. I'd say that excluding the front crank seal, the vacuum pump is the most common place for these engines to leak oil.

 

Now If you used the "right stuf" for a sealer you would be done !Can`t post a picture, but do a searh for (the right stuf) and you will be a happy camper.

 

I've used that before Don! That is some good stuff! Did a t-stat on an old ford once. Did not have a gasket. Tried blue silicone, let it firm up, put on housing torqued. Let sit for a few hours and filled with coolant. Started to leak as soon as I started it. Took it back off and cleaned, put on the right stuff, put on housing, tightened and filled. Started the truck and til the day I got rid of it never leaked from the t-stat housing.

 

Get a 12v tappet cover, has a breather vent in it. Or a CR valve cover.

 

Case tractor dealers have a vent and valve cover set up for about $60.

 

I've been thinkin about one of those breathers lately.
There is a site that has an oil cap with a little breather filter on it. But I haven't got one cause I heard it can mist your engine with oil, and I don't wanna oil my power coating and air filter. I think the site is called hosli diesel?

 

Any pictures of any of these breather valve cover setups?

 

How about nice looking a set of doubles?

 

Or a funky looking but cheap single?
