Nevada Diesel Emissions

How many of you guys from Nevada are having trouble with emissions and your high performance CTD? Am I reading it right that all vehicles 10,000 GVW or less must be tested for opacity and tampering of the exhaust or intake system?

Does anyone make a 1/2 power tune that will make a truck with smoky Jammer 5's pass?

I was aware of the smarty, but just wonder how well it works. I think Quad said if I unplug the Adrenaline, it will do half power, I might have to try that.

I'm not 100% sure I need to do emission testing but according to the DMV website it looks like I will. I actually have my stock nozzles i could put back on my stock injector bodies, I more worried about the inspection of intake and exhaust system. My 3rd gen turbo does not look stock. I also misplaced my CARB sticker for my K&N. I'm looking for someone that has dealt with this stuff in Nevada and could give me a heads up. Maybe there is a shady shop that will "go easy" on the accelerator to ensure it passes the opacity test. And overlook the obvious not stock intake and exhaust. My truck is not too smoky with the boxes turned off, probably smokes like a stock 12valve, but I don't know.

I'm afraid they might have a "red tagged" vehicle list that might make it more difficult to pass if you miss on the first try.

Does B100 burn less smoky than #2? I know I will have to not add the 2stroke oil before I go in. I have never had to smog a vehicle in my entire life, it is scary to me!

Boy,if this was California instituting these tests a massive Ca bashing would be happening. Good luck. Arnold is working on one for us! You're not alone.

Up here the dodge comes in at under 10k GVW so we do not have to submit to the extra emissions and junk the larger diesels do. Are you folks sure your trucks even need to be smogged?
12valve owners can fiddle with the AFC and plate to limit fueling. I dunno about you overvalved guys though. =)
Im really smoky with my latest mods and with all the enviro-**** liberal types up here Im surprised I havent had a personal visit from the EPA yet.
But I do run biodiesel so I dont feel so guilty

I've had my truck tested every year and leave my DDII injectors in and my Smarty on #9 and never even come close to failing. I have a aftermarket 4 inch exhaust and a AirBullDog Hood (modified intake) so I dont know if they look that negatively at that, if at all. They only run the truck up to about 40 mph. I talked to the guy running the test and he said he's never had a truck fail, ever. It's the shop right at the Mill St. exit in Reno, a reputable shop from all I can tell. It blows that we have to go through this every year since this is nothing more than a tax to diesel truck owners.

I ran the Smarty once on half power. My setup was quite a bit less than yours, but I couldn't smoke at all with a HRVP and Jammer2 and the 62mm turbo. Had to use a lot of pedal to get to speed.

Well, if they aren't too picky about intake and exhaust, I think I might pass if I turn my boxes off, run a little biodiesel and add a few oz of acetone. My turbo spools quick, it's just the snap throttle test with Jammer 5's and stock tuning that worries me as far as smoke. A 0-40 on the dyno won't be too bad, just the off idle snap that will puff pretty good. I guess I just need to man up and test the dang thing. I'm currently registered in WA at my folks place, but Nevada gives you 30 days before they fine you 250 bucks for not registering.

Well here is my experience in UT. For my truck, I have to do opacity testing every other year. The standard is 20%, but they let you pass at 30%. If you get turned in for black smoke you can get a 2500 dollar fine if they find you have tmapered with the "fuel management system" in any way. You must also pass at 20% if turned in. If turned in a second time they turn you in to the EPA. With stage 2's, Hot Rod VP44, HX35/40 Hybrid turbo, Juice turned off, I passed at 24%. This was with Smarty on 1/2 fuel. They still gave me fits about it though. Said with a stock truck the opacity is usally 1%.

My buddy got turned in for black smoke. He took the injectors out, the hot rod vp44, all modules, the turbo, and took it back to stock. When he took it in for compliance testing they had three guys climbing all over the truck to find evidence of fuel mods. They could find none and he felt lucky, like they were looking to make an example of him. It's getting ugly.

That's scary, I wonder how long till everyone gets hassled about smoke or "not stock".
