Neep help with 3000 gwk, please
I opened up the inspection hole on the side of the pump with a 7/8 socket, turned the motor over from the starter and could never see the plate or spring. there is also oil to the very edge of the opening. Any advice please???

the springs go by fast if u bar the engine to fast. I'd reccomend barring the engine from a damper bolt or the alternator bolt, and just bar it alittle and check for the retainer nut. u won't see springs, u'll just see the retainer nut and washer that hold the springs down under it. If u still have trouble through the side, doing it through the top isn't hard at all, plus u can see really good.
the oil is normal up to that spot, the pump is lubed by it.

Even easier if you have someone bar the engine, and you look in the hole. PDR has good directions, with a picture of what you will see, look here:

Yeah I was turning it by the alternator (forgot to mention that, sorry) but i was turning 1 full rotation of the ratchet handle at a time. I also had the top open at the same time but i looked through the side 80% of the time because I noticed most say they go through the side. The washer goes on top of the outer most spring right?

yea, the washer holds all 3 springs down. Just do it real slow once and u'll see the first gsk, bar it 1/4 turns or less and keep checking unless u can get a friend to do it while u watch the pump.

I used the 3k GSK from TST, so I can't comment on the washers part, hopefully Box will jump back in with a reply. But if you use the store bought kit with the springs, like I did, the hardest thing is making sure that the nuts get screwed back in to exactly the same spot. I measured it with the caliper, and counted the turns and the clicks, and I had no issues, I didn't even have to adjust the idle. If you make the nuts too tight or too lose, you'll get a crappy idle.
However, if you do use your own home made washers, then I believe you'll have to play with the nuts until you get a smooth idle. Most guys that use the washers eventually get good results, but I didn't want to mess around too much, so I just got the 3k GSK and I'm happy.

I didn't respond either because I bought my kit from city diesel, lol. I'm not sure about what washer to use, that gunracer thread should have all the details on the right washer to use. I think u just put the washer on top of the two inner springs, so really its ALOT easier than doing a full gsk kit because u don't even take out the springs shims or seat.

OK, I'm ready to take the plunge.. Just recieved my kit from City Diesel, & the pictures I got leave a lot to be desired..You say measure with a Vernier Caliper.. measure from where to where.?. And what part of the caliprt do I use for measuring.. i see 3 parts, the inside dia., the outside dia., & when you open the caliper the thin flat rod comes out of the handle end.?. And does the plate have to come out to do the GSK?? If so, I may as well put my plate in the same time,.
Thanks in advance..

City diesel's instructions are for going in through the top so it's up to you if u want to go throught the side. The plate has to come out. Just count the number of turns it takes for the nut to come off and u'll be fine.
