Need some project advice

Well my daily driver has now turned into my project. I guess I have ran my truck into the ground. Headgasket and orings need to be done, transmission needs to be pulled (thinking broken flex plate) and my tcase is also making horrible noise. I was thinking of pulling out the whole drivetrain. Should I give the engine a freshen up? I have about 178k, but if I have to take everything out anyways then why not.
I was thinking maybe new rings and bearings but then again if it ain't broke dont fix it. Any suggestions on that? Also can I yank the engine and transmission without splitting them? ( I know tcase would have to come out for sure)

Thanks,

Josh

If when the H.G. goes , you can get coolant into the oil , and coolant takes babit off the bearings .
By looking at you sig. I would guess you like to play hard , so at least have a look and measure them , if they are getting marginal and you through a rod some day , you wouldn't be able to rebuild that damage.

No coolant in the oil, just leaking on the outside. I know how bad it can be for bearings. My pocket book is not very deep anymore but I will have time to save some cash.

I've read that its comin for that leak on the out side edge , but haven't heard that its happening with other than original H.G.
Theres a product that I've seen advertised in Motor magazine [ basicly sent to auto repair places after ordering there repair manuals.
I haven't tied it yet but have used a simaler product , I get the empression that it is a better product, about $60 ea. I think that it would require 2 to do a Commins .
Also do a oil analisis ,that should help to tell ya what the rest of the eng. is doing , and go from there .

as heavy as the engineis, I'd say no, you can't pull them together.

I'd do the trans/tcase together, and then the engine.

I have a 2 ton cherry picker so I dont think the weight will be a problem. An oil analysis is a good idea. I didnt think about that.

Thanks
