Need some 24 valve help

I have a friend with 02 6sp 3/4 4x4 ton. Its got 4" exhaust, smarty and gauges. He tows about 12k and egts are a problem in setting 5. Things are getting too hot too fast. Any suggestions to cool things down. In stock form it pulls great with no smarty on here. Is this the wrong towing program?

Thanks,

Josh

5 is usually kinda high for heavy towing. #3 is usually the best for that. Maybe get an air intake setup also.

My guess is he's probably running the Smarty without a boost elbow, correct?

With stock injectors and a boost elbow he should build close to 30 pounds of boost which will keeps things cooler.

How hot are his EGTs now?

Thanks,

Josh

Not to hijack this thread but I have two 01s one (HO)has a full catcher with M1.6s and the other(SO) is a smarty on 9 with rv275 bouth trucks tow extreamly heavy trailers 20k+ the only time i see any egt issues is with the m1.6s at high rpms and its running 38 psi with a stock charger.

did the programing on the new smartys change? just curious

I based that on some other threads I read here. Maybe that was incorrect.

To me if someone says they have a Smarty and egts are a problem on 5. I'm thinking level 5 on the Smarty. Then he says, he's not running the Smarty, but can hit 1350 on level 5. Level 5 on what?

Sorry for the confusion He was running the smarty and is unhappy with egts. Without the smarty the truck still pulls ok but the egts are in check and that is what he is most worried about...

Does he have a gazillion inch lift with mudders to match? 3.5 gear or 4.10?

What boost numbers is he getting with the Smarty? A boost elbow should help bring the temps down.

All stock as far as size. Boost is in the low 20s.

Thanks,

Josh

Get a BOOST ELBOW! Not a boost fooler, the boost elbow will keep the waste gate from opening too soon and allow him to get higher boost to aid with keeping the EGT's in check.
