Need options

Hi ya all, am new to the diesel thing but been into hot rods awhile. My new project, you guessed it, is going to be diesel. I have a 95 Dodge Cummins auto with 60k on it, that i am going to put it in my 1954 chev cabover truck.
The chassis i am useing is a 84 chev 1.5 ton motorhome chassis complete with duals and tag axle (4:88 gears). The idea is a hotrod motorhome that i may pull my 57 chevy with on vacation (maybe up to 20,000gvw total).
What would be good mod. options to perform on the engine. My goal is reliabity, good fuel economy, at least 300hp, 600ftlbs at a reasonable cost (i'm a workin stiff). I will be getting the trans done, most likely from BD since there in my area. Options?

Well, I'm not a p-pump guy, but from what I've read 300/600 is very attainable even with the 95/auto pump you have. That engine will live a long happy life at that power level and your projected GCVW, IMO. General guidelines would be 4'' exhaust from the turbo on back with your high-flo muffler of choice---or, go straight pipe, like many on this site do. Next, do a search of this site on BHAF...get you one of those. Is the turbo the stock one from the dodge truck donor? If so, you may want to consider upgrading the exhaust housing to a 16cm since you'll be running heavy all the time. DO transplant the intercooler from the donor truck. Guys more familiar with the p-pump engines will pipe in soon. You have chosen wisely with the 12 valve p-pumped engine. Extremely low maintainance fuel system on an anvil-simple engine---can't go wrong!

BTW---welcome to DTR!!! Glad to have you here

From: Lingleville TX but active duty Air Force all over the world currently
Ummm gauges, More air IN and OUT of th engine..let it breathe.

Get more iar into the engine IE Better TURBO before adding more fuel.

It really comes down to money you want to spend.

3 or 4 GSK
CAM See piers or Don M
Injectors- many out there (also better DV's)
Pump worked over or a hot rod pump ( ithink you have a 160 or 180 hp pump on that truck)
Head worked over
Timing bumped up
Propane NOS etc....
Water Meth injection......
TWINS

There is only so much you can do to this engine before youll need a real tranny though.
I would keep that in mind.
With a good tranny, the sky is the limit on har far you can BOMB a 12V

I would say a 10 plate in the middle set of 370's . Hx 40, 3000gsk , Bump your timing to 16.5 and a set of cut dv's. Run your starwheel up about half way and it will spool that 40 nice with that auto. Put you right over 300 maybe more? I may be wrong tho... ne thoughts?

You'll have to ask elsewhere about the tranny......

Welcome fellow Canuck!
Not to sure on your location but if your close to BD then your close to a couple of other places I would check out first.
DTT is in the same neck of the woods and probably a better option for your tranny and Piers is just up the hwy 15min from them and they have that 12v of yours putting out the power you want. I know of atleast 6 people not happy with our local BD lately and they really seem to cater to the electronic crowd.

The BOMBs already posted will do well. Basically air in, air out, fuel, rpm, and tranny. However, this engine turns slower than the original in your 1.5T chassis. What is your speed expectation? I cruise at 1700 rpm, 62 mph, overdrive, for best milage. Differential ratio is 3.54:1. Unless you can change your ratio you will travel slowly within the 12v CTD preferred range of 1700 to 2000 rpm.

Thx for the info guys. My tires on my 19.5 wheels are about 33 inches tall, so i guess i'm in for a gear change. I do want to highway cruise at about 70mph.
My engine is a 160hp. I'm thinkin pump work, a new turbo, 4 inch exhaust, good intake, gauges with a reworked tranny. Did i miss anything? Whats the issues with BD? I live on Vancouver island and have been talking with Habour
city diesel who is recommending BD.

#10 plate, GSK, 191 DV's would be my suggestion for pump work. Make sure the KDP is taken care of as well.
