I bought a pair of NAPA brand Spiral Cell (made for NAPA by Exide) 84 month batteries back in early 2000 for my '99 dually. I traded them to this truck when I bought it and they have yet to let me down once. I even shorted a wire so bad it brought them to zero volts and killed my truck on the highway. I charged them back up and they haven't missed a start in over 6 years of service. I love them. They crank hard in the cold. HUGE difference when I swapped the factories out for these. Uncomparable to how fast the motor cranked with the new ones compared to the old ones. I paid $126 each for them back in early '00. Still going strong!

Isn't that Napa's spiral cell? $160 sounds like a steal for 2 total.

If I could have gotten a spiral cell for that price I would have tried them. I've always had very good luck with Deka's so that is the way I went. That is the only battery I've ever gotten over 2-3 years out of on a boat. I got 5 out a set of Deka's. Even my buddy who works for Johnson Controls who makes many of the batteries by varies names told me that the Deka's were excellent batteries. Conversely, I've never had an interstate that was anything but basically junk.

I'd try a set of spiral cells if I could get a set for $160 though. I replace the junk Interstates on my gooseneck with the Deka's.

Yeah i know, old thread. I recenty purchased five Odyssey 2150 batteries. Best purchase I ever made. Pricey, $1300 for five, $223 each plus shipping. But battery power, great. Each produces over 2100 cranking amps for the first five seconds at start. They are also deep cycle. I run all this junk in the truck, refridg, freezer, 2000 watt inverter, 1100 microwave with convection, 27 inch tv, coffeemaker, and so on. With these batteries I can shut down for the night, cook a meal, watch a movie or two, and after 12 hours or so start up with faster cranking than the old batteries with the engine warm and batteries charged. Of course I can push it to the limits, I have a generator to bring them back up if I let them go down too far.

A careful look over the forums on batteries will show that there are now problems with Optima but it is very hard to find any negative post on the Odyssey battery. The 2150 is a direct replacement for the group 31 battery but is a bit heavier.

Most impressive, my truck turns over easier on a 20 degree morning with no block heat than it used to in the summer time.

+1. For the money they're great. I can go through two of these for the price of ONE Optima. Not sure how they'd perform in a cold climate though... If you go Optima, only get them from Napa. They're the ones who sell the "true" Optimas.

I put mopar batteries back in my truck. Optimas weren't in my price range, if they were I would have bought them. I first went to Sams Club to get my batteries, I was going to get Interstates. They guy at Sams had a very bad time trying to get the batteries for my truck. first he sells me the wrong cranking amps (too low), then he find ones with the right CCA but the battery is WAY too big for the tray. At that point I said screw it and went to dodge down the street. I bought Mopar batteries which looked IDENTICAL to Interstates. I got them for $60 each, normally they want $85 each, I guess the parts man was being nice that day.

The OEM Mopar batteries were good batteries. They seemed a like they generated a good amount of corrosion, but other than that, plenty of cranking amps and excellent reserve capacity.

They are made by Exide and do not have the same output as Optimas.

Optima is made by Johnson Controls and distributed through interstate battery.

and The yellow top and blue top are the same battey they just have different post configurations.

A blue top of the same model and group will not last any longer than a yellow.

Really.... The red top is listed as a starting battery. The yellow top is a deep (er) cycle battery and will hold charge longer but not as much cranking amps, the blue top is a marine battery designed to put up with the boating situation. There are several great web sites that give all the info. The Odessy is yet a better battery, built to government standards.

Yea but a red top is not in the same class as a yellow or blue top.
