Need more low end power. Suggestions?

I have a hard time getting my truck going from a stop and sometimes smoke out intersections. Can you all suggest something that would give me more low end power? I have 41 inch tires, and am sitting at a mile above sea level. I thought about getting a VGT turbo to replace my stocker, or a gearvendors underdrive, but they are pricey.

Turbo wise, either a HE351VE, or look at making a set of twins with a small secondary. Mike Holmen is running a Garrett GT3582R over a GT4202, which he says spools very well. With your setup you could stand to go smaller yet, unless you are looking to make big power? A GT3271 would spool ridiculously fast, and if you paired it with a K31, would make a decent 500hp pairing, I would think. The little turbo is a T3 flange and internally gated, but an external gate would be beneficial.

You might also look at something like an S2B or S200SX from Borg Warner. Its a larger turbine, and various compressor wheels, from 47-56mm inducers. This is not an internally gated turbo, so an external gate would be almost mandatory.

Tranny wise, how tight is your converter?

Im not sure how tight it is, its a Goerend tripple disk unit. Would a twins set with a 351VE put out some good numbers? I plan on twins eventually. I was also thinking about a supercharger but that would take a lot of money and tinkering

Supercharger would be cool, and I know there was a guy on Comp-D looking for a truck to use to fab up the brackets and what have you.

I think a VE would work well, get Fleece's stand alone controller for it, then you can tune it to how you like it. Using a wastegate actuator is pretty crude. You can run twins with the VGT, but for where you're at, as a single, it would probably run just as well.

4.10 gears are not enough to effeciently get those 41" tires rolling. The additional strain you are putting on the motor/transmission/driveline is going to cause parts to fail. I would say you are putting enough power out of the motor, but you need to put that power to the ground more effectively. 4.10 or 4.56 gears are adequate for 35" tires, but not much larger. The bigger the tires the steeper the gearing you will need. As for smoking out the intersection, its due to the motor straining and heavy fueling just to get that thing rolling. Bottom line change your gearing and you will get your bottom end back and reclaim some fuel mileage.

My feeling is you have too much low end fueling and are basically putting the fire out.
Try backing off on the starwheel or readjust the smoke screw if either have been messed with.

Ditto... More fuel down low doesn't get it rolling any faster.

not too fond of changing the gears. I sometimes run some stock sized tires for drag racing, and using those tires puts me almost to 3500 rpm when I cross the finish line. The only thing that makes sense to me since I switch tires back and forth is a gear vendors unit. Or more air sooner.

For sure need to do a gear swap. You're gonna start killing parts with those tires and tall gears.

I seemed perfect when I was at sea level. I was doing burnouts with these tires. But the mile up altitude really makes a difference.

You could your own version of a gear vender unit with a divorced transfer case for only 2wd, 4wd if you really wanted. It would take some extra fabrication. But you may not want to take the weight hit since you're racing. You could easily pick up the parts alot cheap at a bone yard.
