Re:NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW CUMMINS
the new '03 trucks use a Chrysler automatic..it is still a 3spd with overdrive and a lockup Torque Convertor Clutch.<br><br>The Standard output can be purchaced with a 5spd and the automatic<br><br>The HO engine comes with either a 6spd manual or a heavy duty automatic...still made by Chrysler.<br><br>My room mate has a '03 Standard output auto. It drives real nice, but could use some more power. Edge has a box out for it, and DD has injectors.

Re:NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW CUMMINS
Yes, you can get EXCELLENT power increases with any one of a number of power boxes for the Cummins - the older trucks had better selection due to the length of time on the market, but new ones for the newest models are hitting the market regularly. My truck has only an Edge Comp box, and you can see the results in my sig below. The lowest power boxes, like an Edge EZ are good for about 60 HP, and other models go up from there. Add a larger exhaust and injectors, and you can get MUCH more - but place your clutch or auto tranny in danger - but numerous upgrades are available for them as well - just bring $$$.
If your main goal is pulling heavy loads, the Cummins will do it reliably, and VERY economically as compared to ANY gas powered truck in the same power class.
Again, welcome to the group...

Please do not think anyone is trying to give insults. Many of the members here drive different makes, but I think that most folks around here will agree that dollar for dollar, the Cummins is by far the better power. All nice trucks, but the Dodge is the only one with the Cummins option. For example, my 98 was purchased used with 104000 on the odometer. A year and a half later, all I have had to do is adjust the bands in the tranny. Compared to other power combinations, the cost to maintain is quite good. Look around, and if you get the chance, drive all versions and compare. In a nut shell, would I buy my truck all over again? Yup. My opinion of course.

Welcome nycmikie, 8)<br>Sorry if we got off on the wrong foot. :-[<br>We're a good natured bunch here, and prone to "razz" the Noobies at times. <br><br>You're asking about purchasing a new Cummins powered truck and wanting to know if you boost the output 100+ HP over stock specs will it hold up?<br>Well, the only answer we could give is maybe. <br>It depends on many factors.<br>The way you achieve the added power. "HOW IS THIS A NO-BRAINER decision?<br>iam asking for good info here NOT TO BE INSULTED"<br><br>Mike, you seem to be a good guy, and I'm sure we'd all like to get to know you better - we're partly to blame for giving you a bad time at the outset, but it WAS intended in a good-natured way - you hafta sorta realize this IS a Dodge/Cummins group, and that's where our interests and sympathies lie - I'm sure NONE of us would deliberately try to offend or insult you, but good-natured kidding and razzing ARE a part of life, and it would help to sorta get the chip off your shoulder, and roll with some of the lighter stuff - we'd FAR rather be your friends than your enemies - but there will be some in this, or any other group who won't go outta there way to treat others with kid gloves, either.<br><br>I seriously doubt a Dodge owner showing up over in a Ford or GM forum would be dealt with any better under similar circumstances - but yeah, I keep saying THIS is a better group than most, so we need to watch our comments a little closer...

Re:NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW CUMMINS
Personally, all caps isn't one of my sore points - doesn't hurt my old tired eyes - actually helps - and that old bit about "yelling" is just so much bs as far as I am concerned, usually pointed out by those with nothing else worth commenting on as far as the actual subject is concerned...
But I *do* raise my eyebrows a bit at Cummings for Cummins in a Dodge/Cummins group
Camero for Camaro in a Camaro group
Or "Ford owns Cummins" in ANY group!
"I usta not be abel to spel expurt, and now I are wun"
