Ok i dont no what im doing when it comes to clutches/trannies... i got a 98 5 and my clutch was going out so i thought i might as well upgrade since its gotta be done.. and a guy on pavementsucks just happened to have a SBC Con OFE clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, that he said had only 8000 miles on it, and wanted $600 dollars for it.. well i got it today and took it to a tranny shop to have the guy look at it cuase i was going to have him install it.. well he looked at it and said it was no good, said the flywheel need resurfaced and he would put it in there if i wanted him to, well i go show a buddy thats a pretty good mechanic and he said the clutch is suppoce to have a "bestus" on both sides as he said.. and it only has it on 1 and said the clutch is no good... is this true?? Need help ASAP thanks.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Try to contact the seller and get a refund. Buyer beware.
If the pressure plate is still good you might be able to get a new clutch disk for it.
Good luck

Is the clutch suppoce to have a bestus or whatever, material on both sides?? or just 1? It has it on 1 side but.. the other side is smooth? Is this bad?

One side is organic the other side is ferrous. Not sure what the two are but that's why it's called a con OFE. Of course the flywheel should be resurfaced to make sure it's nice and flat. That's nothing new.

The CON OFE from southbend is a dual friction disc clutch ( i.e. one material on one side and one on the other ). It has a Feramic ( grey iron ) side and a conventional organic or "bestous" as you call it on the other. I would call Peter at Southbend about your problem. Someone not familar with these products might make an error.

there is no way that I would put in a use clutch. He took it out for a reason. I know you need a 13" flyweel, but I think you can get one for $200 and a new clutch kit for $700 and know what you have
