My thoughts on II HRVP44 ... long
I have looked around on here for a long time and have finally started posting a little bit ... I recently had an injection pump failure at 165K and i believe this was the original vp. when i purchased the truck with 154K i replaced the fuel filter and it would not reprime itself .. i therefore purchased the bullydog big fuel kit for my lift pump and thought all was well ... have put about 10K on the truck or so and was driving down the road and just died and would run to about 1K rpms .... so anyways ....
i had looked for hours and hours about the argument of whether or not the HRvp44 was worth the extra cash or not .. heres my personal view on it for people like me that have had a pump failure and are looking into the pump ...
I got done with the vp install on monday morning .. batteries were dead from the dealership trying to get it restarted (another story) so i replaced the batteries which have been due and took the truck for a drive.. the power feels nice nothing crazy but you can definitley feel it .. about like level 3 on a comp or j/a box.. would i buy this pump to replace a perfectly good running pump? absolutely not no way ... would i buy this pump if i was trying to make a HUGE amount of horsepower on a truck? probably not .. but if i was someone in my shoes that had a relatively stock truck that had a pump failure.. yes i feel that the amount of power gained from the hot rod pump was worth the extra money .....
the only real downside i can see to this pump is the price AND that on my auto truck when the a/c is OFF the truck has a somewhat irratic idle or lope i guess... doesnt really sound like a lope to me but i've seen it called that .. and the truck seems to idle a little higher as well ... with the a/c on .. idles just like stock ...
just thought i'd let some of the guys that were interested in this pump hear my opinion before they shelled out the extra cash .. thanks for reading

I'll agree with that. For the big hp guys with major fueling boxes the SO pump will work perfectly and go just as high as a HRVP pump. For the guys who want just a little bump in power the HRVP would work. Glad you enjoy yours. And yes the idle thing is a down side to the HRVP.

I just had my 44 replaced with a unit from Blue Chip Diesel. I went with the
"X" pump, it was about the same price as the Cummins pump. Blue Chip claimed an increase in fuel mileage and H.P. I am impressed!!!, I put on over 300 miles this weekend and ended with a solid 20 mpg. Thats up 2.5 mpg over what it would normally do under the same conditions. The extra kick is nice also.

If you have a dying pump, a fresh one would/could bring extra power and mileage. I'm suspicious of the Blue Chip stuff myself.
As for the HRVP, it runs nice, but mine has that crappy idle, sounds like it still fuels a bit while coasting in gear, and surges at around 1500 rpm with a light to no oad on it when warm. If its warm, and I bring it to 1500rpm while in neutral, the truck will start to rock. If I do it when its cold, nice and smooth. If I were gonna replace a fried VP with another, I'd do it with a plain jane SO pump instead of the HRVP.

I have had way to many complaints about the idle and sorta stumbled across something that fixed it. I had a HRVP on my truck form Dan and with .093 lines and .120 connector tubes I didn't notice any lopy idle what so ever. Patty and them told me many a time when talking with Dan that I would have this crazy cammed up sound to the truck which didn't bother me, in fact I wanted it, however when I put the lines, 8x18 injectors, tubes and pump on, to my suprise it ran smooth no matter what I did to it. 2 month later one of my lines broke and I didn't have a replacement on hand so I put the stock lines back on and wow did it idle crazy. I could make a milkshake with how bad this thing idled. So I started playing around with it. I found for my truck with the fuel system I had that lines really effected the idle, however, on other guys trucks of less hp, if you changed the connector tubes out, it changed the idle. We found if there is just a slight idle when warm, the .084 lines should take care of it it the same connector tubes. I had to go up to the .093 lines and so to see any change. I have worked with quick a few trucks and think I have solved the idle issue for my guys but again it take time figure a few little details out. Hope this helps some of you guys.
