Question my performance combo....is it good?

ok heres a question for the experienced out there. putting a intake, 4" turbo back straight pipe and obviously boost and egt gauges on my 95 manual 12V. the next step will be pulling the plate (i dont do any towing, and when i do its only 5000 lbs and less). i want to buy 140 hp injectors from i cant remember who. question is will my truck like those mods in the order i listed them? or am i missing something? i think thats the max the stock clutch (and bank account) will take so thats kinda my limit. will i be happy or have lots of problems running that setup?

thanks guys

You will need a turbo at that level of fueling and the stock clutch won't be happy for long.

i know the stock clutch wont b happy eventually, but its just gotta last half a year...hopefully till next year and then itll b replaced under maintainance what do you mean by needing a turbo? cant i just increase the boost to give it more air? heard the stock turbos were good for 50+ psi and 5-600 horse. cant afford a turbo unless i win the lottery so thats defenitely out of the question

If you play you pay, forget your warranty. You know you're modified and that's not what they said they’d fix.

Stock turbo ~40 psi max but after 35 your blowing hot air so look for a hybrid or better.

In addition, a 4" straight-pipe exhaust drones pretty bad inside the cab. I'd throw a good 4" truck muffler in there. There's zero performance impact, it still sounds real good, but it doesn't wear you out after a couple of hours' driving time.

I think if it were me, I'd do it in phases. You can do it without wasting money if you put a little thought into it.

Phase 1: I'd start out with (after gauges) the 4" exhaust (with the truck muffler), a 3000 rpm governor spring kit. Maybe slide the stock plate forward and see how performance and EGTs react. Testing is worth a whole lot more than blind advice from us.

You also want to advance the pump timing to about 15 - 16 degrees. This is because the P7100 pump has static timing--it doesn't automatically advance timing as rpms increase like the VE and VP44 pumps do. If you spend lots of time at higher rpms, then I'd go 16 degrees. If you wind it up only a small percentage of the time, then 15 degrees would be better.

Phase 2: New clutch, TST plate (maybe #4 or 5?), injectors.

I'd also recommend doing the clutch now. If that's not in the finances, then just do the timing, exhaust and 3000 rpm GSK. Regardless, it'll still drive like a whole new truck.

Timing and GSk for sure. You can just pull the plate out, and tune the AFC. At this point, your clutch probably won't be liking life too much. Mine started to slip as soon as I changed plates, and that was only a 10 plate. Granted, mine is a 215 pump, not a 175.

Get a good clutch (dual disc), then upgrade the injectors. I ran 140hp injectors on the stock turbo for half a year, it was real snappy and fun. Did 330hp and 1075 ft-lbs. A turbo upgrade took it to 440 and 1150, nothing else changed. You may want to look into buying delivery valves as well, since the smaller pumps have 131's. Just don't get full cuts.

ok sounds like good solid advice guys. iv been running a 6 foot length of straight pipe for several 8 hour trips and havent found it annoying so thats what made me decide to go straight pipe....i rather enjoy it actually, especially around town, which is most my driving. can a gsk be put in by myself or do i have to be a pump specialist for that? i am very mechanically inclined and do just about everything else myself. and what about adjusting the timing? is there some kind of manual i can buy for that stuff? and last but not least, what is this AFC thing u all talk about? tried searching for an answer but came up dry...is that the fuel screw thing that works in conjunction with the fuel plate?

GSK is easy, a magnet and a set of needle nose pliers come in handy. It comes with instructions.

Timing generally requires a dial and screw in mount to put it in the pump. There are other ways of doing it without using a dial, but I personally don't like that method. Find your local chapter and see if someone will do it for you, or a shop.

Look up posts by '12valve', he had a write up and pictures on modifying the AFC for more travel. There are different spring kits as well, comes with instructions. I know there are a couple threads on CompD about tuning the AFC.
