My O-Ringed head leaks!
Well I had the head ringed a while back, it was all torqued to 128 ft lbs. And it is still leaking coolant, the guy that put the head back on for me said one of the O rings had a small nick in it when he got it out of the box, probably shipping damage I assume. Anyways, Im guessing thats where its leaking from, Im going to do a retorque when I go home for spring break and see if it stops. But the deal is, will it hurt to keep running it like this? Its not mixing with oil or anything and its going to have twins on it here in a few weeks so that may be a factor too. I don't mind having to add coolant but I dont want it to lose boost or blow the gasket. What do ya'll think? Im about to say screw it and just leave it alone, Im sick of messing with the head on this thing....Sorry for the long post!

How much do you at and how often? How much boost are you running now? Yo can try retourqe, but i would have it fixed. I ouldnt have put the nicked ring in there in the first place. It also can be a crack in the head to, not shure if you had it pressure tested.

Yes it is leaking out the front, and specs I dont recall, I sent it all to Doug at PDW and he did all the work. I really didnt have much choice but to put it back on there at the time. And Im only running about 35 max boost currently, but that will go to roughly 50 here pretty soon.

I agree with Forest
Many sealing issues come down to the o-ring install.
Heavy protrusion will work fine but it will require a more religious regiment of re torques prior to loading it up and can cause water leaks initially until it sets down. That said did you do any re-torques after the original install? How many cycles were on it prior to it leaking?

No I never checked the block, and it is the secomd re-torque....Im hoping it will seal after I do another one. So Is it somewhat common for them to leak coolant until all the retorques have been reached?

One of NC Chapter members is going through the same problem you are dealing with right now. I'll call him to make sure he is aware of this thread to see if he can offer some insight. His leaked out of the front and speculation was made that the block was not true.
Edit: Just found out that his block was no more the 4 thousandths out.

It was with the ARP Moly Lube. I guess what I am worried about is the jacked up ring, I did have the head decked, so I know its not that, and I hope the block isn't out. What a pain...spend all this money and it leaks worse than before
