Mustang Dynos..
OK, I've been stewing over this for the last couple of days and need to get some answers.
How can the settings in the software of the Mustang Dyno make such a difference in the readings?
Can it be user error to produce bogus HP readings?
Somehow at the event we were at, the HP numbers were all high by a fair margin. I mean there is no way I could lay down 279Hp with what I've done. Just not possible.
I know that at Dynomotive we were bang on accurage with the same system as it compared to the G-Tech by 1%. And the G-tech and the Superflow Dyno checked in by yet another 1%. So I know that around 210 hp is what I've got.
Any input by the experienced Dyno guys is appreciated.

Re:Mustang Dynos..
was the dyno a twin or single roller. If is was a twin and some people cut the belt connecting the two rollers it one way of getting higher #'s. On the mustang dyno I run I have not found a way to get bogus readings.

Re:Mustang Dynos..
I dyno'd 388 and 1098 torque with just an EZ and RAM AIR 3 on an 04... On the dyno Lil Dog is referring too...but it gets better...Another guy with an 03 and same power combo netted [I think] 356 HP...don't know the torque...maybe former PSDKLONE will chime on here as CTDKLONE

Re:Mustang Dynos..
Don't forget, I did 357HP and a 1000 ft/lbs with just an EZ and 4" exhaust. About a month prior to that I did 300HP and 974 ft/lbs on the same dyno.
If I remember correctly, Tim whacked off 440HP with just a Bully Dog box on an otherwise stone stock truck.
The only dynos that I have been on have been Mustangs. Right from day one with my truck these are the numbers:
Stone stock with 2500 kms.....179HP/525ft/lbs
Stone stock with just the EZ plugged in, no boost elbow...226HP/799ft/lbs
Both runs above on PAAL's dyno
Stone stock with 3400 kms......235HP/579ft/lbs
EZ box w/ elbow, 4" exhaust, cold air system........265HP/865ft/lbs
Both runs before and after mods at BD-Power
Last April, PAAL dyno day....221HP/743ft/lbs
No changes from last run at BD-Power after mods
Saturdays dyno pull....357HP/1000.5ft/lbs
No changes at all again.
I'm sure weather and elevation and all that technical stuff comes into play, but it won't affect numbers this drastically.
So I averaged all my runs and came up with this..
247HP and 751 ft/lbs which seems realistically close to what I'm told my combo should put out. Does this sound about right?
I will throw this in. After the spring dyno day at BD-Power (I didn't attend) I did stop into PAAL for whatever reason, and Kevin showed my the dyno sheet from Prancing Turkey Boy's run. He made 419.1 HP and 2139 ft/lbs of twist. See a problem? To the best of my knowledge, nothing has been changed on his truck for last Saturday's dyno day.
Also, do you think the driver has anything to do with it? I have had my truck for just over a year. I know where it runs the best in whatever gear at whatever speed. Ian knows his truck the best, Jason the same, etc. Now, if I got into Ian's or Jason's truck and went for a spin around the town, how much of that truck's performance potential am I going to be able to fully use? Don't know the truck, don't know the sweet spots. Does this make any sense?
My .02 cents, it's a software program. Depending on how you set the parameters up, you will have differences. I'm not saying they do it, but why not tweak the numbers to show how great your product is or the competition's isn't. "My product makes this much HP", wanna buy it!! Lot's of people are impulse buyers. PAAL sold a bunch of boxes last Saturday!! Most of the big power trucks were PAAL customers.
I agree with LiL Dog, Dynomotive's numbers are a little more real world. Tim's combo made, if I remember correctly, 279 HP. It did vary a little depending on what fueling box Tim was trying, but not a huge amount. You also have to remember, Dynomotive has nothing to sell to you!! He only supplies a set of rollers for you to spin, he also more dyno savy when it comes to running the unit.
Maybe I'm just rambling on, but the number discrepency thing has always bothered me. Honestly, I really don't care what the "numbers" are. My truck runs awesome for what I do with it and how I drive it, so I'm happy. SEE----> ;D
I'll go sit in the corner now!

Re:Mustang Dynos..
All good points Homestead....
I just know something is wrong. You go to our dyno day or the recent one at PDR and you won't see as many trucks hitting 400 HP without some more advanced modifications.. Not just a Comp box and dual exhaust which is all they were selling at that show. I saw all the boys on the floor scratchin their heads at Spanky's welding truck wonderin what he's done. What no box???LOL.
All I know for sure is even the stock 01 ETH cranked out 26X Hp which is about 10% more than flywheel at the rollers.. Not physically possible.
Also the torque numbers are all garbage, they didn't use a crank trigger. MIne was reported at 916 ft-lbs.. but I calculated my actual engine RPM from the roller speed and got 680 Ft-lbs, which is reasonable for 279 Hp.. Problem is a clutch for a 93 won't hold that, especially mine.
The acutal test was a farce..They ran mine from 35 mph to 58 mph. (1300 - 2200 rpm) Pretty short power range for any of these trucks, especially those hotrod Dmax's.. They don't make over 200 hp below 1800.
I know there are advanced settings in the dyno for testing 1/4 mile runs and 0-60 etc. YOu can put in the weight of the vehicle and add a resistance for air at speed to try and compensate for an actual run to 100 MPH. Dynomotive was explicit in saying that he couldn't put the full weight of our trucks in as it was over the limit but would try to add resistance with the wind thing as much as possible.
I still don't understand how it could be so wrong, its all just physics. But there has to be some settings in the software that are screwing this thing up.

Re:Mustang Dynos..
Here are my ponderings on that days events.
With the same setup as Scotty, I could only pull 351hp to his 388hp. :-[ Now my run came right after the lunch break and the dyno had a chance to cool down...may be this had some effect on it...comments? It is possible that his truck is just stronger, but, over 30hp seems a bit too high. Actually, with the penguin pre-filter removed I might be able to get a few more HP and close the gap.
Now for the kicker...later in the day with the Bully Dog box and an air box that SUCKS...coOoooOooOOOl air, I pulled off 449hp. Now I am new to the CTD world but that seems almost to good to be true...stock 03 (and only 4000 kms too!!!) with just those two mods seems very high. I was also one of the last trucks to run before the dyno was shut-down due to heat. Could that have been a factor?
On a side note...how do you change your profile when you forget your passord?? :'( :'( :'(

Re:Mustang Dynos..
Whats the conversion factor for Canadian HP?
Back on topic.
The last time I ran on a double roller mustang it said 256hp and 850 ftlbs and the truck only made 15psi boost. Two days before that run I tried a big single roller mustang (1750). That said 388hp, but it was hard on the truck. Felt like I was drag racing with a 10,000 lb load up a 7% grade.
That was when I still had a stock HY35 turbo.
