Multiswitch(?) replacement part ...

I am having a problem where if I try to switch to high beam light nothing happens and it results in total darkness as low beams are then off !!!! Luckily I have fog lamps so as long as I have them on atleast I have a little light. Baiscally, I have to play with the lever then so that I find the right position for low beam or high beams to turn on. So, I believe this assmebly is called the multiswitch assembly (includes the left side handle for blinker, etc. also) ???? Can someone verify this ??? Anyone seen this assembly on the internet or know of a better than OEM replacement or the official name for me to search for one ??? How difficult to replace ... I mean, is it just pulling the steer column plastic, a few screws, unplug old assembly, and install new assembly or is it more involved ???

Thanks in advance ....

Hmmm.

My former GF had a Z24 Cavalier that the muliti function switch fried on. (apparently G.M's are famous for it and it was a couple hundred bucks!)

It was actually a bit of a pain in the neck to change out. Tearing the column all apart and such. They also reccomend you be very careful with any of the Airbag wiring.

That's a surprise you don't need.

It's called the multi-function switch.
Is it causing the problem all the time or just once in a while?
Mine and several others I know of only do it once in a while, working the brights off and on several times usually fixes it for quite some time. I never replaced mine because I figure a new one will eventually do the same thing, it's a common problem with all Chryslers with this style switch most likely caused by dirt buildup on the switch contacts. You probably could clean the brights portion of the switch with electronic cleaner for the same effect.

It happens about 3/4 the time I try to switch to brights. But, you are right in that just switching it back and forth it will eventually make contact and turn the brights on. I almost never use brights as it just a convenience and very rarely ever really needed so Maybe I will just leave it as like you said a new one will probably do the same in a couple years if its a know design flaw. Huuummm, I actually just ordered new headlight as mine have moisture, dirt, etc. so if I just replace them and maybe upgrade to Silverstar bulbs it has to be quivalent to how my bright probably perform now anyways

Same thing happened to me about six months ago. Squirted lots of WD-40 in around the switch and worked it awhile. Hasn't done it again! Hope that helps.
