Iv heard that greg hoge says that the 625arps are better than the h-11 14mm as for as holding and better for less bore distortion . Every one that has the 14mm that iv talked to has had zero problems. This is a grate forum maybe will find that 14mm are the way to go just need more info

I totallly disagree with Greg Hogue on the fact that the 625 ARP's are better than the 14mm studs. IMHO, that doesn't even make sense, but Greg and I don't agree on much anyway.

thanks John_P for the info on your set up i made some phone calls last week to ARP this is what thay say about size and clamping force " the 12mm arp 2000 studs have 19,600 lbs of clamping force and the ARP new age 625 have 24,000 lbs of clamping force and last but NOT least the 14mm studs have 30.000lbs of clamping force "
so when Greg Hogue "a arp sales men " says that the 625s are better than the 14mm in what way does he mean that ?????? All we should care about is clamping force and the 14mms got it all the way i didnt have 14mm with the sheid gasket i have the 12mm arp 2000 studs jp told me thay have trucks running 12mm on ther mls fire ring setup my truck put a qu and a half of oil in my water then stoped leeking i like the gasket and now that i got my motor apart some 14mm might be in it befor it goes back in the truck bore distortion or not

Diesel-Dummy:

You pretty much answered your own question on that clamping force issue and on Greg Hogues' opinion on it! You right, he is "an ARP salesman" and FWIW I would bet that he is getting all of his ARP studs for FREE from them too! Heck, he has been in all of their ads the past year or so in the various diesel magazines and diesel trade publications. To simplify the explanation on 14mm vs 12mm, as you pointed out, the clamping force is higher because you have a stud that is thicker and more "robust" and that extra mass gives more force because it is "spread out" across the whole diameter of the cylinder head. Another issue IMHO is the cost of those new ARP "new age" 12mm studs. As I recall, they are around $1,000.00-$1,200.00 for a full set of 26 of them for the Cummins 5.9 engines. The 14mm studs are nowhere near that, so that should be a factor when considering buying one or the other too.
