Hi all ive got the mls with fire rings from jp at scheids and yes its .90 tho thick and the rings are 1.05 you dont cut head or block also i have the 12mm arps and it did pump about one quart of oil in the radator during the first start up . I shut it down did the first retorque it stoped then ran 3 days to work no boost did the retorque. and then 1 week no more than 10lbs and retorque I blew 2 of the cometics and yes my head was cut to ra 40 block is with in 2 tho. my boost hit 60lbs the first one went, lasted about 5 weeks the outher about 4 weeks so long story short the stock gasket held better to 60 lbs with arps than the cometics . so im not sure about the scheid thing jp told me thay wont install it with out the 14mm he also told me about 7 out of 10 thay did with the 12mm would be good but the outher 3 not so much so thay do have trucks running this thing with 12mm . By the way i have not had my truck over 30lbs yet

yeah i had the same problem putting oil in the coolant. but it still happend after the retorque. and then the whole deal with it leaking between the gasket and steel plate. when i ordered mine it was recomended to use 14mm but nothing was stressed or even mentioned about possible problems using the arp 12mm which i told them i had already ordered.

i have had the cometics 5 layer for almost 2 months now and no problens so far. i have not been over 42lbs of boost though. 12mm arp studs. used plenty of molly lube and they are torqued at 145lbs now. gonna have them retorqued this next week. when it was installed the shop used the copper gasket spray. i dont know if anyone else has used it with the cometics that i know of, unless no one says they do

i would not go over 42lbs with the cometic when my 1st one went it went out the frount between the layers at 55lbs the 2nd went at 60lbs i ran it for 2 mos after it let go if i stayed under 20lbs i didnt here it leek and i had no loss of oil or water on both the cometics i had when i got i 2nd one off it had let go betweenholes 1 and 2 and holes 5and6 this one would have a mis went i got on it . so the best thing i can say about them is that you might still be able to drive it untill your read to change it after it lets go . but with the scheid thing i have on now im going to take it easy for 2or3 more weeks then retorque agen i got them at 145 lbs right now the last retorque thay didnt go past my marks . and mabe the new arps 625s will hold the gaskets on i think that the heads on are trucks are lifting the 12mm arps with x amount of cylinder pressure not not boost pressure , but why can some get away with more and some not ?????????

Scheid did mine w/14mm studs. It's been almost a year since it was installed. I've been through 3 bottles of nitrous and plenty of drag races, wastegate set at 48-50 lbs of boost.

thanks for the info ,thats what im doing if this scheid thing dont hold .I would still like to know about jvenne86 fire rings did thay not compress well with the arp 2000 12mm and yours did with the 14mm . maybe the 14mms dont flex as much at the torque loads were useing and your fire rings got crushed down more ?Has any one used this gasket with the arp 625 new age studs?? Iv heard that greg hoge says that the 625arps are better than the h-11 14mm as for as holding and better for less bore distortion . Every one that has the 14mm that iv talked to has had zero problems. This is a grate forum maybe will find that 14mm are the way to go just need more info

How much did scheid charge to drill and tap to 14mm? Im thinking if its just a little more and the head is already off, why not. Good way to get more safe clamping force.

I think the 14mm and a drill and tap job is about $1200 the same as just buying the new arp 625 studs + $248 for the gasket and fire rings and thats were im at which ones ???????????????

i miced the fire rings and they were crushed to 90 thousandths i also cleaned the head gasket and measured it. it was also 90 thousandths. so it seems that the 12mm will crush the fire rings just fine

Like Mike D. I have the 14mm studs and firerings that Scheid installed for me on my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve (see signature below) and I consistently am hitting 80-85lbs. of boost with absolutely no problems whatsoever.
