muffler and cat delete pipe?

can you put a muffler and cat delete pipe on a 01 ctd? or do you have to buy a whole system. and what would be the best intake and programmer for a 01 ctd?

Congradulations, you just asked a question that will get several responses that cause a debate and youll get lost in the sauce. Truth is certian people do things the cheap way and get almost the same power the rich folks get. Me, I do things outside of the box and hope for the best, just read my sig. and you'll understand. My next step is hundred horse injectors, I look at things the old way and think electronics can only go so far until you reach the mechanical limit therfore needing more fuel aka bigger holes in the sticks. Just my 2 cents. Vern

hold on our trucks have cats? quadzilla adrenaline is a monster for these trucks and its cheap and it comes with guages. and you could straight pipe it or just buy an exhaust. my magnaflow was dirt cheap for the xl series. quite happy with it too.

Its a resonator not a cat you can cut em off and weld in pipe. Thats how my truck was when I got it and I haven't changed. For a programer it depends on what kind of power you want to make.

On an 01 it is a resonator. There is no cat. Resonator...muffler...that is it. The problem is the stock system with the U bolts doesn't come apart easily so generally it has to be cut out. Once you do that it is easy to replace. the bigger issue is the pipe diameter changes along the stsyem. I found it easies to get a whole system.

Not sure what year they started with the resonator, but the 94-97's had a cat. converter, and I'm assuming they started in 98.5 and up with the resonators (someone correct me on the years if I'm wrong). You should be fine getting rid of the resonator, although you will have alot of drone without it. Some guys leave it on, some take it off, some take it off and then put it back on when they find out how irritating it is without one.

I had the stock exhaust with a muffler delete pipe. It didn't sound bad at all. I put a 4in downpipe and 5in exhaust and now she really sounds like a semi. And it drones bad around 2100 to 2400. It was so bad I had to take all the change out of my truck. It's a 99 w/ 5spd though.

The 24 valves did not have the cat...and yes the drone is bad...I had to add a resonator when I re-did my exhaust to 4"
