AT to MT conversion

I had a question about going for a AT to a MT in my 02 2500. I was wondering when I need to replace my transmision it would be possible to put it a MT instead of another AT. Well first is it possible. and second is it worth the money it might cost. Don't know how much it might cost hoping someone can help. Or would it be cheaper to sell it now and buy a MT?
I asked a few people and I got diffrent results. So just need some more info. THanks

It depends on how good you are at sourcing the parts you need, your experience level, and how quickly you work. I've been researching this quite a bit, and going from auto to manual is much easier than going the other way. There is another thread going about the same thing.

From a mechanical standpoint, the actual work to do it isn't a lot harder than replacing a clutch if you already had a manual. You will need the tranny, hydraulic clutch assembly (master + slave cyls and line), driveshafts from a manual trans truck, motor to bellhousing adapter, and possibly a manual trans transfer case. I guess the splines are different from auto to manual, so to save work, just get the tranny and t-case (if you have 4x4) from the same truck, and sell your t-case. Cost wise, if you buy most of the parts new, you will spend almost as much as a rebuilt auto, or a built-up auto. But if you are good at sourcing the parts, you will save a ton of money, coming in around the price of replacing an auto with a junkyard auto.
