Hi everyone.
Yesterday I asked about the outer cover for a BHAF and was given the brand of Outerwears. Is anyone using a BHAF without the Outerwears cover or is there an alternative brand to Outerwears? Would a filter with a foam outer covering be adeqate?

Never had an outer cover for mine.. never had a problem... I'm going to use just an AFE filter next time.. about the same price... a little more work... and build a heat shield...

Same here. Used one since 03 without anything else and have never had a problem. The only thing I'm gonna do is get a heat shield.

 

I'm using the outerwears and you can see the amount of dust it stops from getting at the filter. I guess the filter would do the same thing though. I think the outerwears just add the finishing touch to the mod, just personal opinion though. See my pics, have it in there.

 

Ooppss, ok I told a fib......I thought I had a pic with outerwears....nope, just my plain filter...have to update my gallery...

 

I've got 50K miles on mine, most of that with the outerwears and I think it's getting close to replacement time.

Just visually dirty, no loss of boost or black smoke yet.

My Outerwears catches a good bit of dust too. I wouldn't be comfortable without mine, but I never ran it any other way either. (so I'm not doubting the guys who run naked with no ill effects)
