Moe Power

OK Folks,

I have only posted a couple of times, however I have been reading the forums for over a year. I am fairly new to diesels. I know this has all been gone over before, but the more I read the more conflused I seem to get.

I have an 01 2500 stock truck with 135,000 miles (all highway very little towing)

I also have set aside about $5000.00 to play with for mods.

With the experience that you folks have, What mods would you reccomend that would fall within the dollar figure above.

I have to buy a Tranny and a Turbo within this money also.

I am looking for a combination of better performance and better fuel mileage. I will be purchasing a slide in camper after the mods are complete as well as a 40 foot trailer to drag around.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re:Moe Power

I'm assuming you have a auto since you say you need a tranny. Between the tranny and turbo you wont have much to work with so a Edge Comp box and guages would probably be the best bang for the buck in your situation. The turbo will let you use more of the available power of the comp. Another wise choice is a fuel system upgrade if you happen to have a few bills left.

Re:Moe Power

I may have an additional 2000.00 to throw in there, depending on the performance gained or not gained from the Tranny and Turbo.

I am thinking about the ATS Tranny, but what turbo would be reccomended.

Thanks

That all depends on the horsepower range youre looking for . But I would recomend one of Yardleys turbos, theyre awesome , probably the quickspool since youre an auto guy. Give Rod at www.wildcatdiesel.com a call and he'll set ya up ;D.

I agree with BigBlackDodge. Thats what Im planning on doing.

Just remember though, the turbos dont increase power.

Re:Moe Power

Thanks for all of the input. I was thinking along the same lines as the great suggestions. Only thing I was thinking different is possible DD3 injectors. Are there any disadvantages to running DD3's over the 275's ??

Also, does anyone know of a good shop within 150 miles of Delaware??

Only if you have the fuel to support it.

Just changing the turbo won't do anything, on a stock truck.

After adding fuel, either with a box or injectors, changing the turbo will allow you to fully use the extra fuel you've added.

Fuel burns which spins turbo which pushes air which allows fuel to burn which spins turbo which sucks air, etc etc.

No fuel = no turbo spin = no air = no power.

You have the extra fuel to benefit from it.
