Ditch the K&N filter and buy him a BHAF and download the heatshield template and make the shield for him, if u shop out the filter, you could easily do this for under a hundred bucks. But definately get rid of the K&N

Uh, other idea:
Buy him a case of his favorite beer and stick the rest in your "buy a Cummins powered pickup" fund. He'll understand.

I'm sorry; the devil made me do it! I just couldn't resist.

Sorry I am not very up to date on cummins stuff.....what is a 'campaign' lp and where do you get it?

Cummins LP Kit Update pn 4090046 topic on DTR

Cummins Inc is conducting a campaign of ISB engines Model year '98-'02 installed in school buses, transit buses and emergency vehicles in the United States and Canada due to a possible problem with the fuel lift pump. Cummins Inc has determined that a small percentage of these engines may experience a stall condition. Approximately 43,000 engines are involved, the vast majority of which are school bus engines.

Within the campaign population, Cummins Inc will replace the fuel lift pump with an improved design at no cost to the customer. Cummins Inc will also at no cost to the customer, install a fuel pressure switch coupled with the existing check engine light to warn drivers of low fuel pressure conditions. In addition to replacing the fuel lift pump and installing the fuel pressure switch, under a new Customer Asurance Plan Cummins Inc will replace all fuel injection pumps manufactured between Jan. 2001 and Dec. 2003 due to fuel pump timing bushing failures which result in Fault Code 368. All fuel injection pumps that do not qualify for replacement will be covered by a 10-year (from engine date-in-service) extended coverage for parts only.
Buy it from a CUMMINS dealer (NOT Dodge).
Ask for p/n 4090046
A LOT of folks who don't own a bus or emergency vehicle have bought these pumps. I'm one of them
If they don't ask, don't volunteer any information.

Found on another forum:
I did NOT need an engine number but I did some digging around and found a valid BlueBird Bus engine number that you can use if you get a distributor that requires it. Engine # 56561524 This is a 1999 manufacture date 250 Encore ISB 5.9 Cummins engine.
For more info, search here or on the "other" forums for 4090046

If your local Cummins dealer refuses to sell you one, go to or call another Cummins dealer.

Most folks are picking up these pumps for $65 - $75 + tax

So if I go to the local cummins dealer and give them the part number for the new pump will it come with the low fuel pressure switch?

What is so great about these pumps?

**sorry for the dumb questions - as you can read in my sig I am a GM guy.....although the 4bt conversion has me thinking of going cummins......**

The GREAT part is the price.

Apparantly, when the original type pumps fail, they restrict the flow to the the injection pump. The IP has to work HARD to pull fuel through the dead LP, and eventually the IP fails too.
The "campaign" pump is less restrictive when it fails, hopefully saving the IP from following it to an early death. The kit also includes the low fuel pressure warning sending unit, and a special bolt to plumb it into an existing banjo fitting.

Heck, it even comes with Instructions!
