The Million Dollar question?

Will the 6.7l short block fitt my 5.9l heads, timing cover and all the other goodies. I probably would never need to do such a thing but, if I was really into drag racing or pulling that might be a very coooooooool mod. Just though I'd get some gears turning before most people have even see a 6.7l to even be able to speculate. My guess is based on fact that everything else swapps around I'm saying I can swapp 6.7l short block in my VP equipped Dodge. What do you guys think?

I don't think you'll be able to swap the parts. I think the block is bigger than the old 5.9, but I could very possibly be wrong though......

I don't think the block is bigger as I heard it has simiased cylinder bores.
And legal concerns with what, no inspector anywhere is going to be able to tell displacement of an engine by looking at the outside. And it wouldn't change anything the engine puts out the exhaust pipe because its the same engine management system just getting more air same amount of fuel until somebody adds a box, or other form of more power. Heck a person might even be able to make a 12valve 6.7.

i wouldnt think so. i hear the cylinders are bigger so the head wouldnt match up. maybe?

I think he wants to put the 6.7L short block in his truck with the NON-emissions 5.9 head, etc. Bigger engine=more power???

i get what hes trying to do but i dont think its possible WITHOUT a LOT of work (if possible at all)

and your wanting to equip a 6.7 with a vp44? may i ask why? i think a mechanical injected 6.7 would be sweet

It's not that I want to do this now, I'm looking down the road when god rest, I need a new short block in my 98. Am I going to able to purchase a 6.7L shortblock and put my 5.9L accessories on that block and have me a 98.5 Ram with a 6.7L.
Because the B-series engine is so universal in that right now I could change mine to a p-pump 24v with little trouble other than injector pop off. Heck I could put a VE pump onther if i wanted. I'm thinking Cummins is taking this engine to where the small block Chevy was. You can build a child of an engine because everything fits every block. and it runs like it would of from the factory.

Are you seeing my point here guys?

It will be very interesting to see what can interchange when people start tinkering with these new engines.

I completely see what you are wanting to do and why........but I'm not sure if it will work. It's not a bad idea, but you'd have to do some major research to come up with some answers. I don't think anybody on here is going to know to much about these motors yet.......the 6.7 is still too new.

Ya I understand the motor is still new. And that noboby can answer my question without doubt, execpt maybe a hand full of engineers at Cummins. I just wanted to get some dissicuoin about this as I'm posative of I was a high dollar puller I would tring to get my hands on one of these short blocks in a bad way to see if it would work. that would be a major edge over the compatition I would think. As with anything that kind of stuff rolls down to the little guys later as it becomes more affordable.

Well it's a good idea, would definetely be sweet if it's possible and someone could make it work!! What would even be cooler is throwing in the new auto tranny along with that short block........that'd make these trucks SWEET!!

I forgot about the new 6spd slushbox that might be great for the auto guys. Would be sweet though having a 6.7 in my ram and nobody but myself could tell the difference.

I'm just gona go on and say no.

The combustion chamber on the 5.9 is probably much smaller so that would raise compression and make a mess.

Then the deck height is probably different because the 6.7 has a longer stroke.

I would look more into, can you put a 6.7 crank in a 5.9 block and make it a stroker. Somethin like a 6.4. I mean I'm not sure what it would because I don't know the stroke and the bore of the new 6.7.

I still don't know why you need to buy a 6.7L when there are millions of 5.9 out there? I'm sure you can buy 5.9L short blocks (new) or long block for the next 20 years from cummins. The tranny thats a different story, I want to see how they stand-up to 1500ft-lbs and 800hp before I want one. Yes six speeds is cool, same with a tranny that can last the blast down the track.

Its not needing to buy its wanting something different, the challenge of doing it, I only fall short in the money deptment. You can't tell me a 6.7L engine making 400-500 hp isn't going to run better than a 5.9L no replacement for displacement . In all reality I'll probably never come close to ever doing such a swapp but would love the challenge.
