Well I can get a brand new Super B Special for a good price, but what do yall think about them? From what I've been told they are the same as HTT's Quick Diesel64 and II SPS64. Do you think it would be too big for my current fueling? My truck is my daily driver, but I don't tow. I will be taking my truck to the track a couple times out of the year, but I do hotrod around on the roads too.
What do yall think?

I would not want the 'Special' with an automatic. It is, I believe, the same as the Super B, but with a larger turbine housing.
Super B's and the Specials are great turbos.... and the Special is ok for a strong fueling, manual tranny but too much lag for an Auto....IMHO.
I've been down that road before....NO fun!

Any real world input on this turbo??
RowJ thanks for the info. What turbo would you reccommend for my setup then? Also I'm going to upgrade to some 200s, but not for a while.

You are in that difficult, inbetween area. Need to trade off spoolup for EGT's.
If I were doing it over again and where you are.... I would serious look at a PhatShaft 64/12. It will still get hot, but if you limit time over 1200* to less than 10 sec, you should be fine.
The problem with the Super B is it's a smaller (58 mm) compressor wheel. Great for 375 HP +/-, but not enough for a Comp and big injectors, IMO.
My thinking is this. I spend 90% of my time dealing with spool up, controlling smoke in traffic, lugging the motor in OD, etc. 10% is dealing with high EGT's. Better to handle the 90% fairly well...and deal with the 10% as need arises.
As always.....JMO

I have the HTT 64/12. It's been a great turbo for my needs. I've had this turbo for about two years now and have done everything under the sun with it. I daily drive, tow and drag race with the use of nitrous. The dual wastegates keep the boost in check with the use of nitrous. EGT are high in the 1/4 1600+.
With that said, I'm keeping an eye on the 64/14 with the 71 wheel.

I've been really looking at this turbo also. I've searched for opinions from owners, but not many seem to be stepping forward. Some might say that could be a negative, but I haven't seen anyone selling one yet on the used market. I've seen posts from a couple of 3rd Gen guys that love them.
I've talked with BD a couple times about the turbo and they really steered me towards the smaller Super B or their twins. Maybe they are worried about someone hooking up 15k behind it and not liking it. I looked in the BD forums and one 3rd Gen guy swapped out a Super B for a Special and exhaust and went from 474hp to 524hp!
So what's my attraction to the turbo? Simple, value. This 64/71/14 turbo with a downpipe is quite a bit less than the various 62mm derivatives without a downpipe. What little I've heard about it is that it spools really well for a big turbo, but then how can it be much different from the other 64/71s out there based on the same platform?
The only thing holding me back is that I expect to tow about 7k maybe 10-12 times per year and I just don't know if it will be too big of a hassle.

Yeah Tim, I gues need to quit being a baby huh? While I'm at it I need to go ahead and call lenny to get a price on some 200s eh? Lord help me my money is just flying out the window....
Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'm about to go ahead and order it in the next few days unless I read something really negative about it.
