I'd rather have this sort of thing happen now than half way through the pulling season.. At 296k it wasn't exactly "due" for a rebuild but it definitely can't hurt.. We'll see how the bearings look.

Dang Garrett that thing broke bad, good thing the pulling season is over... I'm sorry bud, other than doing the balancing and everything you could add a ZZ intake manifold and just add on to the porting and polishing. On a side note how does that 64/14 do towing? Do you have bigger tires on the truck than factory?

I tapped mine into the return heater hose that comes from the cab.

No ZZ manifold for me.. The head is already a stage 2.5 port job, thats why I hope we can save the valve job mess on #6.

The truck has 4.10s and 265 tires, it tows is awesome but the RPM's are at 2500RPM at cruising speed so its definitely in the powerband.

NP, IIRC its the line that connects down by the oil filter, NOT the line that connects to the head. I T'd in right by #5/#6 on the hose right where it turns to rubber coming out of the firewall.

5/8 or 3/4?? Not 100% I think it was the same size as the existing heater hoses.

Here are the Cummins Parts diagrams:

Thanks for bringing that cooling kit back to my attention...I need to order one ASAP, while the head is off! Although I'll alter th plumbing a bit I have a water cooled Garrett charger, and I'm moving the heat exchanger, so I'll just eliminate the lines coming off the head all together.

I lost that number, I haven't orderend mine yet, but with me redesigning my twins and replacing my head, I might put in that coolant kit. I have a history of running my truck into overheating area once or twice myself. Take some after pics of the ride bud. Maybe you could talk Piers into building a motor for ya. I would try the 3rd gen pistons as they have the mods for extra oil swirting/coolant thingy. They fit in the holes and are not too exotic of a piston. You sleeving the motor? What color you painting the new motor? I like hemi orange or cummin's red would be a hot color.

I'm not changing to a 24 Valve head so I think 3rd gen pistons aren't an option.
I have a good engine/machine shop that I work with, but thanks for the suggestion re Piers, I do a lot of business with his new business

As long as the cylinder wall can be cleaned up I don't plan on sleeving it.

I will take some after pics for sure, thanks
