Mbrp 4"

Its time for new exhaust system. I'm looking at the 4" MBRP to replace my existing "stock" system. I believe my current system has both a resonator and a muffler.

Will going to the MBRP 4" make the truck alot louder? Will it drone under load?
I'm not looking to get crazy, just need a new system.

What do you think?

Ive got the Silverline 4" system with muffler. It is quite a good bit louder outside, especially under good throttle. Not a whole lot louder inside though.

I will say that the tip placement is important. I had my tip off for a while so that the exit was tucked up under the edge of the bed about 2". It is way louder in the cab like this. When the tip is on, equal with the outside of the tire, much quieter.

I have the MBRP 4" system. It came with a muffler. It was not noticabley louder in the cab, but outside, as mentioned above, it was loud (in a nice way) under throttle. Sounded really good.
I have since straight piped it I love the way it sounds, but it IS loud with the straight pipe. If you are looking for a good sounding system that is not much louder in the cab, I can recommend the MBRP with muffler. I have no experience with other systems, so I can't compare/contrast them for you.

I second the vote on the MBRP.

I have one and spent a lot of time driving from GA to FL.

I think it decreased incab drone. Truth be told you will probably always have some, but I noticed it got rid of it between 50-55mph.

Hope this helps.

I've got a 4" mbrp turbo back w/muffler. Love it. Quiet (relative) inside and sounds great outside. No real drone unless you're towing @ WOT. The install was easy and everything fit as it should. Plus the turbo whistle at idle is music to my ears.

Question

I've had the MBRP 4" system for about a year and have been mostly happy with it. I normally don't drive on the freeway, just in town w/ a top speed of 50-60 BUT .. this past weekend I was driving through the hills around Asheville NC and the DRONE was really bad. By the time I was back on i40 doing 70/75(ish) I had to put earplugs in. I've been reading post with suggestions to resolve this but would be happy to hear your idea's. I'll start with loosening all of the clamps shifting into gear fwd/reverse and back to park then re tighten everything. - If that doesn't work then I'll see about putting a resonator as close to the front of the truck as possible.

When I had a drone with the muffler, it was because the downpipe was touching the frame, making highway driving a tough time. Get some clearance on that, and it should be good. I swapped that exhaust onto my 12v, made sure there was clearance between the pipe and the frame, and its nice and quiet.

Tate was on the right path

Thanks to Tate's post I found my drone issue. My down pipe was only attached to the turbo by 2-3 threads on one bolt. <See attached pic> the rusty threads at the very end were all that was holding the system on. (It's rusty as I made this discovery a few weeks back.) I originally had the muffler installed by a national shop up the street as the old exhaust was pretty well rusted on and that's the result. One bolt barley attached. - I went to Dodge and purchased the correct bolts and attached them myself. After that no more drone. I'm much happier with my MBRP now.
