Lightbulb Manual 24v

I am in the market for a manual 24 valve and was wondering if I wanted a H.O. 6 speed or a normal 5 speed, from what I hear the 5 speeds have more potential. My goal for the truck is to have ether around 500 hp or run a mid to low 13 and was wondering what I need to do. I all ready know I am going to run a 5 inch exhaust a Scotty air II and all the gages. I know that I will need a new lift pump and fuel pump I here FASS makes some good stuff but I don’t know. As far as the chip I was thinking about running a reflashed computer with ether a edge drag comp or a TST power max I also know I will need new injectors but don’t really know what kind I am going to run and as far as the turbo I was thinking a B1. I would need to do a clutch, probably a south bend 13” also does any one know if you need to do any output shaft stuff with that tranny or 5th gear retaining nut???

When you say five speeds have more potential, do mean because of gearing or because of the limitations of the HO pump? Just wondering, because I have a six speed that is not an HO. Just trying to follow your logic.

What I have read about the differences between the 5 speed verses the 6 speed is the differences in the shift points. With a 5 speed you won’t have to shift as rapidly as a 6 speed, witch is a tranny mint more for towing more than the 5 speed. Thanks

The gear ratios are the same in 1st and 5th in the 5 speed as the 1st and 6th gears in the six speed. Only difference in the gears inbetween. And the six speed doesn't have the problem of the 5th gear nut backing off so you lose overdrive. I personnally would go for the 6 speed.

FASS makes an excellent product, I would recommend the FASS 2. Most people prefer the edge drag comp due to price and smoothness of power. Although I am running a tst powermax and an edge ez, which has proven to make slightly more power, especially on the bottom end. Many people are very happy with the "MAD ECM" (reflash) combined with the tst powermax, makes even more power than an EZ. As far as injectors, I would go with formula ones, probably a Mach 4, possibly even Mach 5's, depending on what your plans are for the truck. B1's are probably the most durable turbos out there and a full B1 should be able to support a little over 500 hp, although im not sure about spoolup and such with a manual, im an auto guy. I would also recommend looking into High Tech Turbo (www.htturbo.com), heard nothing but good things. Just my opinions.
Others should chime in and be able to help you out with the tranny and clutch stuff, good luck.

I've got the 6 speed and it is great for towing, you can always find the "right gear". I also really like the con ofe clutch.

That said, you can't shift this transmission like you could a muncie with a hurst shifter. If I was really interested in 1/4 mile times I would prefer a built automatic.

i think the thread is rite on target for what it was intended.you asked about building a 24v truck and you got lots of excelent inteligent answers.i even learned a few things about the 6sp gear ratios.

Ill take my 6 speed over a 5 speed anyday. The 6speed is a close ratio gearbox. If you add a short shift kit to it, it should shift pretty good. Mine only has problems speed shifting into 5th. Other than that I can bang it like a muncie, a long throw muncie.

thats why I want the short shifter kit.

Also form my experience and what I have been able to read here, the 6 speed is pretty much bullet proof. Not indestructible but bullet proof.

I hope I dont start anything with that statement.

If you're going for speed the auto would be best IMHO, but to stay on topic, I'd suggest the six speed with the SO engine.
Then go for head studs, gauges, a MAD ECM, Redline box, F1 Mach something injectors and twins. Keep it fed with fuel, and get a clutch that won't smoke.
If you want to do it step by step, take the steps that will make it more robust first, like studs and clutch, then the steps to monitor it (excpt fuel pressure this should be on top of the list), then steps to feed it with the desired level of power, and as a final step, air and fuel upgrades together. This way you won'T have to retrace your steps or buy stuff twice.

I have heard that if you are going to sport the kind of power that i desire you need to upgrade the tail howsing shaft, also i was wondering what it would take to run a twin tubo set up is there a kit or can you buy the stuff to do it yourself and what would be good turbos to run with that setup also is there any down falls to running a twin setup. as far as i know i am going to run a HTB2/66 turbo right now would i be better off with that setup.
