Man! is my head spinning.
I just got off the phone with Banks. I was asking questions about the Big Hoss and things went down hill fast. He said that the Banks box does not have a boost fooler, so he started to tell me about the $200 dollar wastegate accuator they sell. He recommended this accuator because it won't overspin the turbo.
He went on to tell me that boxes like the EZ will overspin the turbo. When I asked him to explain how the EZ box will overspin the turbo, he said " I don't sell EZ boxes so I don't know" then I asked how he could make his original claim in the first place? He said you can either believe what I say or not.
I told him to have a nice day.
Ok guys, what am I not understanding? Is there a difference in how a wastegate accuator builds boost v.s. a boost elbow and fooler?
After talking with that guy, I don't know what to believe.

ill take a quick stab at this im by no means an expert and somone maybe able to do a better job but....when you put a box on u are adding more fuel in order to get maximum burn out of the fuel you need boost. if you are pooring black smoke out your pipe you can use a bigger turbo or one that spools differently. a boot fooler or the elbow fools the waste gate into providing more boost before it dumps the execess. when it does this you stop gaining rpm. your turbo build boost in relation to its RPM so when the gate open it will build no more boost or rpm. I dont think that the whole story but a start. so i dont think just a box will over boost ur turbo

Boost depends on the rpm of the compressor for a given rpm of the engine.
The wastegate is the one that keeps the turbo from overspeeding. Banks changes the wastegate actuator with one that will open later. So they increase turbo rpm.
The Edge boost elbow will trick the stock wastegate actuator into getting less boost. So this one does also increase turbo rpm.
Basically if running the same boost both companies will stress the turbo the same.
Combinations of fueling boxes with blocked wastegates may well grenade turbos.
A boost fooler is not working on the wastegate. A boost fooler is an electronic device that makes the PCM and the ECM see only 21psi of boost, because the stock electronics think: Hey the wastegate is sticking, something is wrong, don't push so hard, take it easy! - Which isn't exactly what we want when adding a box or injectors.
To get performance we will need air and fuel- the more the better- but in an adequate mixture.
So for more fuel we need more air- higher pressure on the intake to force more air in.
I think you've got some not too competent person on the phone.

Cumminsdude: The stock HX 35 will go up to 30psi of boost. Naturally it has to work much harder with the EZ and the wastegate clamped. I'd suggest that you get the elbow from edge. Actually with a wastegate you will get lower EGTs because when the wastegate opens the backpressure is reduced. Also as long as you have enough air to burn all the fuel there is nothing gained by forcing more air in.
I don't see any gauges in your sig. I think that's pretty much flying blind, especially when bombing the truck.

I have the elbow and i was only getting 22 psi but i clamped it and it would go up to about 24-25. I did notice when going up a little hill I could get it up to about 28. It wasn't a real small hill but it wasn't real steap either. What should I do to have my turbo last the longest? Leave it clamped or unclamp it and just use the elbow? BTW I haven't see in it over 28.

A stock HX35 can make as much as 45 lbs. of boost.
I've done it.
I have mine wastegated at 40 lbs. with a boost elbow.
Anything above 38 lbs. and you are just creating more heat and not adding any more air.
It will be out of it's map range.
40 lbs. is a little high but that's where I keep mine.
I have a 12 valve so I don't need a boost fooler.
But with a 24 valve [ computer controled ] you do or you will throw a code it the computer.

I am running an hx-35 off an 01 HO with the wastegate plugged and almost the entire life of this turbo it has spun over 40lbs of boost. No problems whatsoever. Last weekend i dyno'd 350RWHP on a mustang dyno at 5000 ft. elevation. In my opinion people shouldn't be so scared of plugging there wastegate. The stock turbo will handle an ez with the wastegate plugged very easily. i've seen it done many many times.

My turbo has lasted for 80000miles at 36psi with the wastegate forced open. With just a fueling box, its pretty hard to overspin a HY35 or HX35. Adding injectors and a box that a different story. I have run the ez edge box and ez comp box. The egt's will be higher than stock, if you tow. For a quick blast the egt's should be ok. The turbo housing is no longer grey, its a pretty bronze color. The stock turbo is pretty tuff unit. I have barked mine quite abit and it still lives. They just don't move enough air to make big power.

I was a bit baffled at bank$' new little comment about hackers in their advertising...kinda of a who's calling the kettle black statement.

I have a 99 4wd with a Comp Box with the elbow and pump wire installed, factory turbo and K&N Air Canon Filter with the stock turbo. All this said, my turbo peaks at 32# you can't make it go over that and I'm just fine with that this truck has to last me, but my question slash problem here is that even with the Comp Box turned all the way I don't get even a small puff of smoke out of this truck. If I understand it right that means I'm probably not getting the full effect here. Am I right here?

I’m just my stating my opinion again. But If I had to talk junk about the other guy’s product to make a living I would find another profession where I could maintain my integrity. The truth is good products sell themselves. Let me give this example, Browning does not have to talk junk about Winchester to sell Browning firearms. The quality of the Browning speaks for it's self.
