Makin' some changes

Hey Guys,
I have a question about tires but first I would like to give ya a list of the changes I'm makin this week. I'm installing an Edge EZ and a 4"exhaust (Duels). I haven't figured out waht gauge package yet but that will be very soon. Now about the tires. I would like to go with as large a tire as I can without lifting the truck. My truck is a work truck 1st. I have read a lot of the past posts and see where some guys say that 305 fit and there is little or no rubbing and other guys say 285 are it. I think that it depends on how wide the wheel is. I wouldn't be using the stock wheels I'll be ordering some 10" wide centerlines this week as well. Now I have heard that the Michelin ATX MS wear great but do they come in a 305? I really like the BFG MTs but like I have said in the past I put on alot of miles (about 1200 a week)and I doubt that MTs are going to wear very well. Fuel mileage is also a concern and with the 245s that I have on the truck I get about 18 - 20 mpg. The tach runs about 2200+ RPMs at 72 - 75mph. The way I see it with the larger tire this may improve a bit but I'm not sure about the rolling resistance. I think once the truck is up and rolling the mileage will improve a bit. (At least I hope). So what do you guys think about the changes? I have time to change things around but will be putting in some orders Monday/Tuesday of this week.
Thanks,Topper

P.S. Happy Fathers Day to all the other Dads out there!

I lost over 1 mpg with my 315s. I'm thinking about going to 285s for my next tires. These trucks definitely look better with something bigger than a 245 or 265. With your 3:54 gears I would be scared to run big tires. I could feel a power difference going from my 265s to the 315s and I run 4:10 gears. I can imagine how it would feel with your gears. My 315s fit with no lift and I have no problems except for a slight rub at full lock. I like the BFG ATs and will probably get them again......

I run 285 Mastercraft Courser C/T's(pics in my gallery), and really like the tread design, because they arent too agressive like an MT, but they are a lot nicer than all terrains. I think my mileage has dropped some maybe, but i havent noticed any power loss.

I ordered an EDGE EZ and a 4" (duel) exaust today from RPM Outlet. I have a guy that works for one of the plants that I take care of and he has a W2500 just like mine but his is a gasser. Well he has 305's on it and when I asked how he like them he said there working out great. Well when I told him that I was thinking about putting a set on my truck he told me that I could try his. About 35min. later I had them on my truck. On the drive home the truck went great. It did loose a few rpms at 75 the power seemed fine though. I also had a Block Mold in the back of the truck 2500 - 3000 lbs. I should have the EDGE box on Wed. looking forward to runnin the truck with that installed.

Don't forget to recalibrate your speedometer... It going to be slower that what you actually going... So if it's showing 75 MPH it could be as high as 80-85 MPH... Actually...

Be aware...

Yea thanks Mopar,
I did a quick check with a tire size calculator and that gave me about 11% error (to slow) in the speedo. So the way I see it if my speedo is reading 70 I'm traveling about 77mph. When I get my new tires on do I have to buy a new gear for the tranie or can the cpu be reprogramed?

Your going to need to take to the dealer for reprogramming... You'll need the rev's per mile number for the recalc of the speedo...

With 10" wheels...you will be much better off with the 305's. 285's would be to "squatty", IMO.
And the Michelins are great....but do not come in 305's.
I think the 305's look great on the stock 8" wheels! Will work well, as long as your not towing heavy.

Well I installed the Edge EZ tonight and man for a five min. install I can't believe the difference. I pulled out of the driveway and when I hit the foot feed the thing took off like a scaldid dog. The tires broke loose and away I went. Well I have put countless hrs into my other trucks carbs, intakes, cams gears well you know the drill and not seen the difference that this little black box made. No wheelies yet though Happy Ga .

The boost elbow keeps your wastegate from opening until your turbo builds more boost/air pressure so your motor can handle more fuel without a buncha smoke....the wastegate just opens a little later. I enjoy mine.
Ya gotta install a lift pump fuel pressure guage. If your lift pump pressure gets too low and starts heating and eating your injector pump, you won't know until the poor truck jes' quits.

If you are staying with the stock rims, 285s will wear out in a hurry, been there and done that. The stockers are 16x6.5, and a 265 is the largest. If you are buying new rims, try to stay with the stock backspacing, or they will stick out. I ran 255/85s on the stock rims, and loved them. Never got her stuck, the tall and narrow dig like there is no tomorrow. The will leave ruts in the yard though, so some food for thought. I now have 16.5 x 9.75 and they really stick out, and throw mud all over side of truck. Do some research, for my money I think I may sell the Center Lines and go back to 255/85 MTs.
