Angry Major problem with Edge EZ!!!!! (SOLVED -- UPDATE)

OK, it's a bit of a story here, but I'm frustrated as heck, and I NEED SOME HELP!!!

1st Edge EZ, worked great for 8+ months. Noticeable gain in power, liked it a lot. Went on a road trip, noticed the engine/injection timing seemed to vary when I was climbing a grade in OD (no trailer). The engine would change from "rattly" to smooth, to rattly to smooth every 5-10 seconds, like the engine was searching for the right timing while lugging a bit climbing a grade at highway speed. Only noted the real rattliness when the engine was lugging. It sounded very similar to what it sounds like when it is cold.

Called Edge, they sent me a new EZ (#2). Hooked up the new EZ, no power at all, thing could hardly get to highway speed. Literally undriveable. Opened up the EZ, no jumper in it at all. I thought that was the problem, so I added a jumper to the far right position (most power) -- no change at all. No power.

I noted that this EZ had 4 jumper positions where my old one that I had sent back only had 3. I know the EZ for the 3rd gens HPCR has 4 settings, the one for our 2nd gens only has 3. The EZ I had here was labelled as a EZ for a 2nd gen though. Called Edge again, they sent me another EZ. No codes with the key method (just "PdonE" shows), no check engine light, even when driving it and it had zero power.

Put this one on today -- SAME PROBLEM. Same 4 positions for the jumper. NO power at all. No codes, no check engine light. Tried various jumper positions, no change at all.

Put truck back to stock by unhooking the Edge EZ, power is back, truck runs fine, no codes. Fuel pressure is fine and monitored.

What gives?

I'll be calling Edge tomorrow....don't have time right now, and day is almost done.

Can anyone help??????

i think the fact that the EZ you have has 4 jumpers is really screwy and something Edge needs to answer/replace. did a CR EZ get packaged in a VP EZ by accident? or did a CR EZ get ID'ed with a VP EZ #? not sure if any of the plugs would fit but just some thoughts. did they give you a new one when you returned the one with 4 jumpers? or did they check it over and then sent it back rather than sending a new one....write down the serial # so you know they dont send you back the same exact one.

is your fuel pressure warning light burned out? or shorted out?

good luck and let us know what you find....

Pat

The LP light comes on with key in on position, and goes out once the starter is bumped/engine cranks.

The two EZs I have here are both different manufacture dates. One is Sept 2006, and one is Feb 07. The only thing I can come up with is that they have mis-labelled the EZs for the 2002 trucks, and they are actully for the CR 2003 trucks.

I'll be calling them tomorrow.

To be quite honest, I'm a liitle cheesed off here too. I've been without an EZ that works for more than a month now. Takes a long time to get a box from Utah to Canada...

Thanks to those who are taking a stab at it, I know it is quite the mystery

Hmm this is a tough one. As long as your are following the directions and installing it correctly (I'm not saying that your not) I would say something got outta hand at Edge and they got mixed up. I would be a little "Cheesed off" too, hopefully it turns out for ya. Keep us posted..

On hold w/Edge right now.

I double and triple checked all connections were tight/correct.

I'm stumped.

Mystery Solved

They were mislabelled -- BOTH OF THEM! They were actually for a DURAMAX LBZ They had me open the box up and read the small sticker on the inside on one of the chips on the circuit board. You guessed it "LBZ Ver 0.1".

No wonder my Cummins didn't like it! I was trying to feed it Duracrap stuff .

Edge was wonderful to work with, and even offered to pay me for the shipping costs.

FINALLY -- SOLVED!

Yea, Im suprised that the edge for the durocrap didnt go up in smoke/flames as soon as it was hooked into a Ram Powered Cummins!!..

But, Im happy you got it figured out, and I too have had nothing but great experience with Edge's customer service!!

Got the new EZ and a 2XL Edge T shirt by courier today. I'm at work now, so the install will be tomorrow. I'm relieved it all worked out.

They had all the right wires to hook up, just the circuit board inside the unit was the wrong part -- so no power. Wierd that I got no codes or check engine light or anything. The thing just wouldn't run worth a darn. Had a hard time just getting to hwy speed.

Theres no way it could even run at all. The interface bale connectors are totally different...it would be impossible to even plug it in. Not to mention, I doubt Cummins uses the J2284/GMLAN data bus.

I think you might have gotten an older cummins one...how many plugs were on it? Any pictures?

Not quite sure why you're insinuating that I'm lying, but I'm not an idiot. I didn't put a square peg in a round hole . You must have misunderstood me, or not read closely enough.

It had the correct 3 plugs on one end of the wire harness for my truck (two for the MAP in & out) and one for the 3 terminal pump control wire that is normally plugged to prevent water intrusion. The other end of that wire plugged into the EZ box itself. The wire harness and the box were 2 separate parts. Trust me, I have hooked and unhooked an EZ to my truck about a dozen times. I could do it with my eyes closed now after all this.

And, well, it did run -- just not very well. As I said, the wire ends that hook to the engine were correct (I even checked the part # on the wire), and the end that plugs into the EZ box itself was correct. The box was labelled as a 2002 Dodge EZ on the outside, but the circuit board inside the EZ box was labelled LBZ on a small white sticker on the largest chip on the circuit board. It was not for an older Cummins, as I mentioned earlier in this thread, it was an LBZ box with a label on it for a 2002 Dodge EZ1000B, and the correct Dodge wire harness. I do have pictures at home on my home computer. I emailed them to Edge. Edge tech help and I were both surprised the truck ran at all, and more surprised it threw no codes.

Anyway, and more importantly, I installed the new box this am, and it works great. Back in business.
