Mach 2's, boost fooler, and int/ex good combo?
Well, guys,
I went and test drove an '01 HO yesterday morning and loved it! I hadn't really been looking lately for a 24V, but all the 12V's in my area are very high-priced, and my last three (!!) long-distance deals on 12V's have fallen through (two '98 quad cabs, and one '97 club). So I gave up on long-distance deals and started looking more locally and found this nice 85k mile '01 quad cab shortbed 4x4. Black with blacked out windows. Test drove 'er, and I liked it better than the '04 I drove!!
This brings me to my question. For beginning mods, how does intake, exhaust, Mach 2's, and boost fooler sound? Will I be looking for a new clutch with this setup? Will EGT's be pretty manageable? Anyone run something similar and can comment for me? Thanks in advance!!
Chris

Thanks for the input, BigBlue.
I got word back that my loan was approved, and I signed all the paperwork this morning - going and picking up my new '01 HO at 5:30!!
It's got 85k miles on it - do you think adding a Comp would be too much stress on a VP44 that's this old? I've heard the boxes are harder on the pumps than injectors are. True?
Thanks.

With our experience, the Drag Comp didnt knock out our clutch. When we stacked on the Bully Dog 180 HP injectors.....1x5 was the only setting we got with out slippage! Then it went to box off only...then pop the clutch and pieces fall out.......called Southbend and things are happy again! Just sutters badly at take off and whats with this 5th gear nut! MAN! Im getting good at pulling the T-case!
O yeah...Comp knocked out our VP44 at 28K on the shop truck (This was before we knew about upgradeing the fueling system...live and learn) ...but its a rough life for that rig! We got FASS and its all better.....16-17 PSI on 5x5 WOT...dont think it gets much better! Just pricy....even my cost! haha......
We are proud! The 2002 Quad 3500 just killed its first Z28 in Waco on 35 this weekend.....it was a blast! haha....man its a smoking fool! The guy rolled down his window after i smoked him and asked what i had in the truck.....i just said.....haha..."K&N!!" and smiled! It was a trip!
BUT upgrade the fueling system with a pusher pump of some sort...we like the FASS but its not for everybody! I would start with an air intake and exhaust. Then look for injectors and a module. Then get the most use out of your clutch! haha! Then talk to Southbend......o yeah last and most important...GAUGES!!! Pyro, Fuel, Boost...in that order!
From what i hear....the Built VP44 pumps are not really worth the money....they only give like 20-30HP i think for like a grand more....i dont know...this stock one is doing fine by me...haha...unless you are going to pro-drag it....i would sink that money into a good turbo. Just my 2!

Howard VanFleet from .LHV Electronics. He is the builder for the turbo timer. He worked with me to get the right set up to install it above my head. The switch is a 3 position for 2, 4, 6 mins. I need to update thoes pics...i have better ones that have the new trim piece that isnt ripped...and it has the sticker to show what is what. Ill see about doing that tom.

Well, I got the truck. Turns out it is already straight-piped - I thought these things were supposed to be loud with a straight pipe?
Anyway, loving the truck so far - she really pulls hard once you get into the higher gears. Is there any way to tell externally (without checking the computer) if the last owner had a box? Not concerned about it; just curious.

Look for a mangled wire coming out of the injection pump. Other than that, that's about the only way to tell without digging into the computer.
Mudinford, I think the purpose of the built VP's is to be able to supply more fuel when you go bigger injectors (more than what a stock VP can deliver) and maybe to allow the engine to rev higher. The one's I have priced are only an extra $200 over a remand unit.

Wow...that is the cheepest that i have seen then...where did you see it? Piers wanted an arm and a leg...but i bet its done right. But we can get remans for around 1,150.00.
Put a 4" system with a stright pipe...and i bet you will smile more! It will blow like a loud tuba!
Also look for the Data link plug. If it is missing, more times then not there has been a module of some sorts....but if the pump wire has not been tapped, the MAP sensor/Data link modules usally dont pull enough fuel to worry about unless the lift pump is weak.
