which lp,holley, mallory, fass

LP is headding south need help making decision whick one to buy, just about ruled out factory carter.
Holley has 3 I'm considering the blue, black, and a new one that is a gerotor type.
Mallory has a good lookin one with summit part#MAA4142, 120gpm, gerotor type, but it says gas only and 6psi limited adjustment.
Aeromotive part#AEI 11203, 18-20 psi, 150gpm vane type.
Then theres the Fass, I've never heard the specs for it , but the only negatives about it is niose and price.
anybody got expireinces with any of these pumps I would love to here your opions.

Good question!! I'm also interested in the answer. I just had fuel pressure read at "The Power Shop" in Enumclaw WA when I had them replace my slipping clutch with a South Bend CON O. It was reading 4psi at WOT and 13 at idle. They recomend the FASS

I tried Holley Blue by the tank, wasn't happy with it and went with a Carter P4601HP from Summit for $94. It is also located by the tank and it has worked well so far. I am also prefiltering the fuel before the pump. I took off the OEM pump.

My Carter 4601hp next to the fuel tank has been in service since Sept. last year with no problems. I like the pre-filter idea. Power Service with every fueling at mfg's recommend.

My ski boat (455 Olds) has had the mallory since '95, never misses a beat. the pump is 16' away from the tank and is mounted high in the gunwales.
Flawless. We flog it, but it get regular maintenance.

What gives diesel fuel pumps their limited life span? There has to be an industial application that answers the problem.

I have that mallory in my boat also.... great gerotor pump , but it took a dump because they were cheap on the bearing they use , it was a shielded bearing , took it out and got a sealed bearing cost me 6 dollars versus 4 dollars for the cheaper one. been a great pump since but I see nothing in there other then the seal keeping it from being compatible for use in diesel. can always put a viton seal in there also.

I have went through a Carter, two Holley Blacks and am on my Aeromotive now...So far the Aero is the winner...can not drop the psi below my 15 psi setpoint...although I have spent time and money replacing all fuel pickup and delivery lines...from tank bottom to VP44...I also taped and threaded the stock filter housing to accept 3/8" fittings instead of the 12mm X 1.5

FASS II! $370.00 bucks, 16-17psi WOT, 20psi @ cruise, 21-22 @ idle, 4yr unlimited mileage guarantee, PROBLEM SOLVED!

I have added a Holley blue with the regulator with the factory carter pump, so far WOT @ 17psi. Two pumps, helps to ensure I get home. It depends on how much $$ you have or want to spend on one. My pro's & con's fass/holley.

Fass
Pro= good psi @ WOT with a generous warranty.
Con= side of road with dead fass, your local parts store is not going to have one. Be ready to stab something else in its place. Yes, they are man made. Can and will break sooner or later.

Holley
Pro, Cost less and more available.
Con, may not last as long as a fass.

Note, On Holley web site they noted their pumps are now diesel compatible. Fass is very good option, if you have the $$ for it. It's Monday, try to keep the flames down.

I have a Carter 4600 installed back by the tank for 3 1/2 years and 100,000 miles with no problems. Was only $85 from Summit back when I got it.

i use the holley Volumax 160 GPH its a big pump and holds 22psi 1/2 lines from tank to VP44 and 2 return lines (factory and from the pump) its been great and its made for all fuels

thanks fellers, I like the Fass price isnt,t really a problem. just want to be outside the box a little, thats why I'm considering the mallory. I wish these trucks had a lobe on the cam for a mechanical pump I slap a 12valve lp and a regulator on there and be done with it.

i searched the forum for a while and saw a decent number of guys getting about 10-20k miles out of the cheaper pumps(holley/mallory/etc) I have no experience with the cheaper pumps so I can only say what I've read other guys reporting. We decided for the reliability and quality to go with a FASS, can't have the service truck broken down cause we saved some money. one day of having the truck down will cost more than the price difference between the cheap pumps and FASS. I'm sure just the FASS2 pump would be fine, it was easier for us to get the whole system, and now the filters are easy to get to and the water sep is easy to drain, also comes with a nice warranty.

Didn't know holley's pumps are diesel compatible now, good to hear. They're pretty good about listening to market demand. If you can live with the possibility that your truck *MIGHT* be down for a day or two till you get a new pump I'd say go with a Holley. Whatever you do get a fuel pressure guage!

Lets not forget RASP, that is the one that is mechanical belt driven unit which has been a very good reliable pump.
