Low Boost

I installed my edge juice/attitude and was really expecting higher boost #'s.
On #5 setting I was able to accidentally hit 21#, but usually only get 11-15# WOT.
I checked theIC boots for leaks but found nothing. Is there another place that these trucks are known to have boost leaks?
I removed the ring in the turbo when I added my intake and checked endplay on the wheel and it appears to be fine.
I changed VP44 and lift pump and am seeing good fuel pressure. Is it possible that my ijectors are the cause?
I'm new to Cummins and no nothing except what I have learned off this site.
I have determined that this this will spank my Powerstroke handily with very little modification.

Did your juice come with a brass boost elbow to go in the turbo for the wastegate??

Do you hear a loud air leak noise coming from under the hood under power? That is how I know I have a boost leak (plus I can't build over 20 psi). It could be a pinhole leak in the intercooler too.

I dont hear the leak noise. I'm VERY familiar whith what it sounds like as I chased boost leaks on my Ford for quite some time.
I hope its not the IC

I have been told to check the welds where the IC connects to the intake. It is said that they are prone to leaks.

The samll brass elbow replaces the one on the turbo, it goes inthe line running from the turbo to the wastegate. Take off the goofy clamp from the factory, pop the hose off and unscrew the existing elbow replace it with the one in the kit, install the hose clamp that came with it, and walah more boost. I put the same thing on my 2002 and 33 psi of boost is not a problem on level 5. If that does not do it you have a leak somewhere. Have a friend stand outside the truck while you put it under load to build boost and see if they can hear a large amout of air coming from under the hood or from the front of the truck(meaning your air to air or charge air cooler). Let us know what you found out.

Being your truck is an auto, and a 2001, you've got the HY35 turbo. The boost elbow screws into the compressor housing, on an HX35. Your turbo has a hardline going from the compressor to the wastegate, so this fitting is no good to you. Best way is to either get a j-hook, or a turn buckle to hold your waste gate shut. You could pinch the line, but I'm always in favour of things that are easily reversible, and that could cause more issues. Do a search on a j-hook or turnbuckle for more info on where to get them and the like.

I just finished installing my Holley Blue fuel pump...29# FP at idle. I need to install regulator?
Decided to tie the waste gate off so it couldn't open and went for a test drive...warmed it up and mashed on the gas...BOOM!!!
IC boot blew off on drivers side on the bottom. I guess I need to have the waste gate opperative?

How much boost did you get before the boot blew off? Sounds like you may have found your source of low boost.

If you get a j-hook, it has a spring in it, it will allow the wastegate open at a certain pressure, depending on how you set the spring. It'll give you some boost, and allow the wastegate to be functional.

Well iv been told that anything over30psi is not good for the vp44, im scrapping the holley and just putting in a small pusher pump to see what happens. The pressure is only 7 psi on the smaller one and is 14 on the holley. I have 40 psi at idle with mine.

What is your psi at wot?

I saw 35# before it blew. Your right, Ill bet that boot was leaking the whole time. I fixed and went into town to try and find the right turnbuckle to do it right with the spring. It still maxed out at 20# now that I took the wire off the wastegate. well see how it goes with the spring on it.

Why don't you just rip your factory lift pump out and run just the holley?

You should be seeing more boost than 11-15@wot stock. The wastegate is set to 20psi +/- 2psi from the factory. I'd pressurize the whole system and see if you can't pin point any leaks.

I got the turnbuckle setup done and I am seeing 24-25# boost now.
My FP is still at 19-20#...Is that ok or should I back the regulator down some?
