Which is Louder

Is a 600 series supposed to be louder than a 12 and 24v. Say is they all had 5in stacks with 4in pipe going to them turbo back. Which one would be the loudest.

I'd say the 24v. I've pulled up next to some straight piped 12v and I'd say mine is noisier! The 3rd gens are quite. No contest.

P.S. Cool use name.

When stock, my HO 24V was the loudest clattering CTD I've ever heard.

Don M injectors made it noticeably quieter.

If we are talking about the engine "clatter" or "rattle", the 2nd gen 24v wins hands down - the 3rd gen with it's HPCR is the quietest by far. If we are talking about the sound level of the exhaust, expect the truck that is running the highest fueling level to be the loudest if all else is identical....and if we are comparing stock CTD's, the 3rd gen would win that. It can be tough to tell sometimes.....I have heard loud 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens!

My friend has a 3rd gen. He straight piped it and that only lasted two days before he put the muffler back on. It was by far louder than my 01. It was the most annoying sound Ive ever heard I think.

I'd have to say the first gen 12 valves. My dad's 92 (straight piped) is ridiculous. I can here him when he is about a mile or so from the house. that's with me inside of the house. i love it.

Think turbo sizes make a difference as well as fuel? I thought my truck quieted down when I put the HX35 and 3.5" downpipe back on it compared to the 40 with the 4" , maybe twins would quiet it down too since there's 2?

Yall think a CTD is loud?

U oughta pull up next to a straight piped 6.9 or 7.3 without a turbo! GOOD LORD!! those are loud. And i do have to say this, the 24V engines are louder, second gen 24 V stockers sound almost as loud as my slightly modded 12V CTD.. thats just my opinion

I have had several people tell me this week my truck is the loudest diesel they have ever heard...

Got me to thinking, my pipe is smaller, so the air should be moving at a higher velocity, making more noise... Am I right here, or way off?

mine is alot louder with the comp on. cause when i hit boost in any gear with the windows down, theres no way you can talk (even yell) to a passenger. and i like it alot.

I noticed that once I tapped the wire the exhaust got noticeably louder. When I slapped the KSB-1 on it it got a little quieter but it was still a lot louder than it was in EZ mode. My buddy has a twin turboed 12v and he's running a 5" down pipe only and it's quieter inside that thing than it is in mine. Twins make a big difference.
